Municipal election results show low turnout in Roblin and wards
In Roblin Charles Brade Walter Lupichuk and Wilfred Nash contested two council seats with Lupichuk and Nash winning 351 and 325 votes while Brade trailed at 288. Overall turnout was 551 of 1282 eligible. In Shell River RM reeve F H Wilson won 288 to 169 over A F Moore. Ward 2 councillor Sam Fitkowski elected 135 votes over Paul Anhalt 53 with 501 eligible voters. Hillsburg ward 4 saw Carl Semehuk 59, Wm Panasiuk 51, Frank Bailes Jr 27 of 171 eligible. Intermountain School Division trustees re-elected by acclamation Ward 1 Gordon Bussett Ward 3 Garry Gaber Ward 5 John Sanchuk Ward 7 Forbes Powell Ward 9 Frank Goshulak.

The 1971 72 Training Year begins with the first parade on Tuesday Sept 14. Commanding Officer Captain Paul Galatiuk and Lt Anthony Miller lead, with instructors, RCMP, clergy, and a civilian committee in Russell Manitoba. The program covers flight principles, navigation, first aid, and leadership. About 30 cadets are enrolled though the squadron capacity is three times that.
