Volume 21 number 1 notes reduced public spending on printing and urges subscribers and advertisers to support the paper. Management says revenue pressure from subscriptions is vital to keep the publication running until business improves.
The article notes agitation to cancel an October or November national holiday, unlikely if Parliament cannot rush an amendment to the Remembrance Day act. Thanksgiving Day has already been observed by government order in council. Remembrance Day on November 11 remains statutory as applied.
A series of weddings reported in Roblin and surroundings. Dorothy Denny and Clarence Lunan wed at the Manse in Roblin. Myrtle Shiner and John Bailey marry in Roblin. Gloria Yakimichin and Anton Warbec wed with a reception, Warbec to reside in Roblin. Hilda Inglis and Lloyd Day marry at the Inglis home with a post ceremony luncheon and plans for a short honeymoon in the Tommel district.
The Roblin Flute Band will meet for practice in the church basement at 5 o clock on November 6. The Dominion government is securing work for 1,500 single men in the National Parks in the West, with tasks including clearing and other improvements. Two hundred single men from various parts of the Province are employed in Riding Mountain National Park.
A Davia hall Halloween dance hosts guests from Banscay Saskatchewan. A poultry processing demonstration is set for Saturday November 12 at 2 p.m. in Togo fire hall under Department of Agriculture. Mr Otto Nille lost his house to fire last week. Homemakers Club meets November 10 at Mrs Vekm to welcome visitors. Memorial Remembrance Day program and a fowl supper at the United Church are noted. Mrs Charles Traub Sr. died near Makaroff, funeral at United Church with six sons as pallbearers.
Miss Phyllis Burrell spent the weekend under partial roof while Mr and Mrs Murphy hosted guests of Mr and Mrs Mills and others from Silverwood visited Sunday. A. C. McKnight, formerly of the district, spent a few days visiting friends. Young folks enjoyed a Silverwood dance last Friday. Mrs J Radford Sr. has influenza but is expected to recover soon. A social evening at Mr T Burrell’s honored Mr J Stevenson of Dauphin, formerly a local resident, who remains fond of fun. The gathering ended with games jokes dancing and Auld Lang Syne as he heads home health and happiness are wished.
Cromarty nurse K K Collins on duty this week in Gilbert Plains. Jack Hay traveled to Mafeking on Thursday. Mrs W Clarkson visiting friends in Dauphin. Jack Calwell made a trip to Makaroff this week. Mrs J Collins visited sister in Swan River last week. Mr and Mrs Clem Robinson entertained visitors from Makaroff Sunday. Fred McDade returned home after a week with relatives in Brandon.
Miss Mary Wardle of Dropmore and Miss Gertie McMaster of Brandon visited district friends over the weekend. A correction notes a shower held October 20 in the church for Miss Alice Nastrom. Memorial service for Harry Ward was well attended, praising his community work. A town supper by the Ladies Aid featured a strong program by C.G.I.T. and Trail Rangers, with prizes and a candy booth, drawing attendees from Toro Roblin and nearby districts.

Young folks enjoyed Halloween at the Kendrick home. Pool Elevator annual meeting elected L A Chase as president and others as officers. Scrimshaw Sr. named a delegate to the Winnipeg convention.

The W.I. fund drive thanks the Scottish Clans for a $22.80 donation. friends of F. Craig and J. E. Ward returned from Churchill after a summer away. A Ramsay C.N.R. agent was called to Toronto due to Mrs. Ramsay’s illness. A United Church Friday evening debate will follow the fowl supper on the motion that the Press exerts greater influence for good than the pulpit.
