Canada’s three score years of nationhood are traced from the wood burner engine of 1867 to today’s vast locomotive power. Artist C We Jett ereys, Canada's foremost historical artist, graphically depicts the evolution with emphasis on equipment, tea, and industrial growth.
A reflection on the origins of Confederation. It credits Alexander Tilloch Galt as the visionary force who foresaw a united dominion, shaping the practical scheme and winning public support, while acknowledging Mackenzie King’s leadership in guiding Confederation through difficulties.
Shell River Council met in Roblin on May 19 with Reeve Rogers in the chair and councillors present. Grants totaling 60 and 25 were approved for Jubilee celebrations, and council approved a road and bridge tender, a bylaw for land sale, and various salaries and licenses. Reading of minutes noted, plus a report on a community entertainment event and remarks on local civic matters.
The Dauphin district of Women's Institutes met May 19 at Tum mel with hosts from Tummel Institute. Women from Winnipegosis Ochre River and Makaroff attended by car. President Mrs Browse opened a strong program with morning and afternoon sessions featuring addresses music demonstrations and a paper on Canada. Miss Alice Muse spoke on Canada’s Achievements Since Confederation. Cromarty Institute dance May 27 at Bran son’s Barn with proceeds to Ald Wer Memorial. price 1.00 per couple.
Roblin events include visiting residents Mrs CL Mitchell of Islay and Mrs EE Simcox of Winnipeg, provincial election set for June 25 with beer question on same day, garden tea and fancy lace sale June 9, G OS Spear in Winnipeg for Mystic Shrine ceremony, Victoria Day weather quiet. Local softball and amateur ball league updates, theatre night with Diamond and Hearts play, piano duets and solo performances by Miss Starr, Miss Yeo, and Mr J Hill.
The Togo Tennis Club plans a meeting at Inn Hall on Friday in June to elect officers including President B. Thompson and Vice President Mrs HM Brown. The agenda lists committees for Grounds Entertainment Finance and more with numerous named members and a dance committee.
Mr Wilkie arrived Friday to take the Pastoral field for the summer heats. Mr Fete Olson recovering from a severe cold. Mr Baine of Roblin inspecting our school for repairs. Harry Dekslake moved to Minneapolis five years ago and says Manitoba beats that country. Yuesawishin’s son amputated finger after a spring injury at Dauphin hospital. An afternoon fee will be held under the auspices of Trinity 1.O.BA on Saturday May 28 at the home of Mrs J Lambkin, starting at 8 o'clock.
Miss H Howell visits Merridale as good growing weather and wheat emergence are reported. A forest fire near Abenit was quickly extinguished by Fire Warden L Curle, narrowly avoiding serious damage. A. McCaulay serves as watchman on the fiat forest reserve. A new steel tower rises higher than the old one, and visitors remark on the climb and view.
Mr J. G. Atwater returned from trapping with two small bear cubs. Misses Dorothy Witfield and Donelda Hasso visited friends near Kannack by horseback over the weekend. Myr Worry Wilson bought a McCormick Deering tractor and plows nightly. Spring work is progressing about 80 percent with cool soil delaying wheat seeding. Young Yorkshire pigs are in demand in the district and can be sold by advertise.
Sunday services announced for May 29 including Tuumel and Cromarty topics and Quaker fear piece. Deepdale hosted a youth cast performance of Mother Mine with Roblin participants, praised by locals for talent exchange and goodwill.
