M A C emphasizes strict sorting of seed potatoes before planting to avoid tuber diseases. Remove off type tubers, under three ounces, black scar, brown necrosis, or any rot. Internal faults like black heart or browning also require exclusion after growth. Careful selection yields higher returns.
Provincial records from Crop Record No 105 issued December 81 1921 summarize general wheat seeding and harvest dates across years 1918 to 1925. Entries list year by year seeding in spring and harvests in late summer with varying start dates and general harvest timing.
It is noted with gratitude that funds for the Roblin War Memorial are rising. Last week 440.00 was received in cash and pledges, with further acknowledgments due from Anglican W. A. members and a silver tea event contributing significant amounts. The running total now stands at 496.65.
The Goose Lake Consolidated School Board met in the school on Friday in May. C H Sorbo acted as chair with members Bowley Staples Bennie Gamey Mitchell present. Minutes were adopted. Treasurers ordered 400 certificates and various accounts were approved. The resignation of Bowley as tru nce officer was accepted and names for re engagement discussed. The secretary treasurer to contact the department about laying out school grounds and free planting. Meeting adjourned.
May 24 marks Empire Day as Queen Victoria's birthday. The article notes the British Empire’s growth under her reign and calls for a four day celebration uniting the empire in loyalty to the Crown. Victoria’s words are cited on prosperity, strength, security, and gratitude as central to the empire.
The Cromarty W I announces a dance at Mr Bren don's Barn on Friday May 27 with music and dances for all. Proceeds support War Memorial at one dollar per couple. The group met last Thursday at Mia Chapman’s home with a well attended meeting and Mrs Collins reading a paper about My Trip to Honolulu. A dainty lunch followed.
Community calendar items include an Afternoon Tea for War Memorial on May 21, a Trinity LOBA tea May 28, a May 24 tennis tournament, and a May 24 comedy by Grandview players. Elks celebrate a first anniversary with a dance, and a Roblin lodge district meeting adjourns with officers named. Fire at Fisher Bros. blacksmith shop caused minor damage from a gasoline flare. police and fire units responded.
The Rev Dr W E Millson of Saskatoon will preach next Sunday at Tummel Cromarty and Roblin. He is a Social Service Secretary of the United Church and this will be his first Roblin visit. A Friday United Church meeting invites all interested in the Temperance campaign and liquor vote with Dr Millson as chief speaker. Services May 22 in Orange Hall. 11 a.m. service by Rev H Hill and Holy Communion. 7 p.m. service conducted by Incumbent G E Phillips.
The Salvation Army schedules a special altar service for the Self Denial Fund with featured gifts. An Open Air meeting is set for Sunday at 8 pm, with Y P Company meeting and Bible Class on Saturday at 3 pm and Sunday.
Local residents including Mrs H Brown Mr Jay Dimit and Mr and Mrs John Sinclair visited town. The Bishop of Cariboo held confirmation at the Anglican church. A Diamond Jubilee celebration committee was formed as a Teachers and Trustees meeting met in preparation. Mrs A Olson escaped injury after a wagon incident across a creek with her husband.
The district reports wheat seeding by early settlers Mr Bradley of Swan River visited Bield last week. Messrs Smith and Ballard of Roblin led a prayer meeting in the area. Dauphin contractors load field gravel for the Young Men's College project. Roblin cattle buyer Mr Lichter was here buying cattle with success. Mr Drinkwater departed for the Soldier Settlement Board project in the North. Willwickie the blacksmith completed a hand made trip hammer with satisfying results. Cattle die offs spark concern among older residents over possible disease after severe winter. Mr and Mrs Falconer, who lost their home to a blaze, received over 280 in charitable dance proceeds. Harry Lots and sister Martha returned from Minnesota. Manitoba feels home to them again. Death of Mrs Pritscoskle of Shortdale reported. details unavailable.
Mr J Nastrom visited friends in Merridale on Sunday. Seeding progresses with a feed shortage. Many neighbors regret Mr C Lloyd leaving though his farm remains, he plans to visit his mother in the United States and return. Messrs F Saunders and J Saunders of Deepdale are the first to complete a car this spring.
