Manitoba to Build Western Chemical Plant by 1968

Dryden Chemicals Limited will start a multi million dollar plant in western Manitoba this spring to produce chlorine caustic soda and related chemicals. The project aims to be completed and in operation by mid 1968 with government officials citing Manitoba development goals.

Summer Assistant Weldon Newton joins Ag Rep team

Mr Weldon Newton a second year Agriculture student at the University of Manitoba has joined the Ag Rep office as Summer Assistant. He will plant 23 000 trees this week and 28 000 if aided by co operation from Shell River RM. He is a strong athlete and aims for the Manitoba Pan Am trials in June. He will run 26 miles on June 4 at the stock show and sale slated for June 10. Community readers are urged to watch for achievement dates as they are announced.

Mr and Mrs Ross Misoner and family of Dauphin visited Ian Ford’s home Sunday. Winnipeg visitors include Miss Sandra Wardle and Miss Janice Martin at Roblin area homes. The Roblin Hospital Auxiliary Bazaar and Tea is set for Knox United Church basement this Saturday afternoon. Michelle Kines is recovering steadily after returning from Boston with family. Peter Bugera returned home after Winnipeg General Hospital care and resumed teaching duties at Roblin Collegiate.

The Tummel 4 H Garden Club held its third meeting on May 10. Vice President Linda Zimmer called to order as the president was absent. Roll call used the name of a flower and the group chose their rally display.

Makaroff Women's Institute Entertains Grandmothers

The Makaroff Women's Institute gathered May 10 at Mrs. James Arnott's home with a short meeting led by President Kerswell. Seventeen members and guests enjoyed games and prizes, a bake sale collection, and plans for the district convention at Foxwarren plus Hospital Aid tea items to be left at Mrs. Arnott's.

Grand Narrows reports Mr and Mrs John Radford and baby son visiting at his parents over the long week end. Grade V and VI Choirs To Sing At Provincial Finals

Grade V and VI choirs competed May 18 at 1 30 p m as Inter mediate School choirs selected a winner for further competition judged by L Needham of Brandon College. He praised their enthusiasm and awarded marks 169 and 170. Joan Fitkowski earned a trophy share and a 35 scholarship at Peace Gardens after top Brandon Festival results and strong Regina solo scores. A folk dancing workshop is planned June 3 at the Collegiate with David Williams of Winnipeg assisting teachers.

Funeral services for Josephine Mala shewski of Roblin Manitoba were held May 17 1987 at St Michael's Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Roblin with interment in the parish cemetery. Survivors include four sons one daughter and 24 grandchildren. Mary Ethel McNeil Kines of Roblin Manitoba died May 16 1967. she was organist choir director and active in church and community life. The Knox United Church service in Roblin was conducted May 1967 by Rev E G Diron for Mrs Kines.
