Obituary notices for John Boychuk and Desire Vermeylen

Funeral services were held in Roblin and San Clara for John Boychuk 44 of Roblin born in Roblin Manitoba. Interment followed at Parish cemetery with pallbearers named. Vermeylen Desire 77 died in Roblin and funeral conducted by Father Dansereau at San Clara Roman Catholic Church. She immigrated from Belgium in 1901 and later lived in Redvers Boggy Creek San Clara and Yorkton leaving five sons and four daughters, 34 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Harold Boughton Heads Home and School Group

Harold Boughton presided as head of Roblin and District Home and School Association at a May 16 meeting in the Intermediate School auditorium attended by about 240. Reports were read, poems and songs performed, a proposed library vote, and plans for a calendar ad space and a Field Day booth were discussed. New officers and committees were named, and the evening ended with a Roblin Musical Group performance.

Twenty three grade one pupils led by Mrs. Lebedovich traveled to Binscarth for the May festival. Roblin earned seconds in speech choir and both girls and boys in spoken poetry while expressing a need for a Roblin musical festival to unite district schools and showcase talent.

Roblin 4-H Public Speaking Contest Highlights

The Roblin District 4-H Public Speaking Contest sponsored by Winnipeg Kiwanis Club was held May 17 at the Intermediate School with thirteen contestants. Judges included Father Pereida Rev P Borchardt and Doug Sherwin. Wayne Digby and Lynn Bakken won top spots in the senior group and will advance to the Inter District Contest May 25 at 8 p.m. in the same school auditorium, with Swan River and Russell areas competing. The leading speaker at the Inter District could win a fully funded trip to Winnipeg for the Kiwanis Club Banquet in July.
