Collegiate Visit Highlights Student Guidance Session

Deas HOS Perdue attended the Brandon school on Thursday to observe students and collect feedback. Jan Yas and Ma da provided interpretation of test results and offered guidance on university plans and chances of success. The Dean's visit impressed the Collegiate, and upcoming exams will keep students busy in the weeks ahead.

Hillsburg council tackles road and hospital matters in May 1962

Hillsburg Rural Municipality council meeting chaired by Reeve John Perciatuk Jeon adopted minutes and by laws, ratified hospital facility establishment for Roblin District No 2, and approved tax certificate transfer to Parkland Investors. They asked Hydro to align lines with road plans, sought Drainage Branch assistance, requested continued rail service, and directed payment of accounts totaling 8 974.56 with a horse ownership claim by R A Parrott.

Mrs Philipose Addresses Roblin Women’s Institute

The Roblin Women’s Institute met in the United Church lower hall on May 17 with good attendance. The rail call featured an exchange of plant shops. The Roblin History project has now nearly completed this interim stage.

Explorer Graduation Held Friday May 25 at Knox Church

Six Explorers graduated from the Explorers Group into the C.G.L.T. at a ceremony in Knox United Church lower hall on Friday May 25. The graduates were Elinor Simpson Joan McBride Lark Gamey Gloria Boughton Janne Arnott and Bonnie Bruce. The Fireflies of the C.G.I.T. welcomed them into C.G.L.T. Mrs Ro McBride distributed certificates and E pins. Mrs Ho Oliphant gave the guest speech.

Shrine Circus Draws 1000 Plus From Roblin Area

On May 22 Roblin residents traveled to Dauphin by a 103-car cavalcade carrying over 200 children from Grade 1 to Grade 12 and 190 adults. RCALP of Robin and Dauphin guided the convoy with drivers supplying transport, while Roblin Shriners organized ticket sales and the parade.

Blessing and Opening At St. Vladimir's June 3rd

A Sunday program marks the blessing and official opening of the St. Vladimir's College new wing with dignitaries from across Canada attending. Events include Pontifical High Mass at 10 00 a m, the 3 00 p m ceremony, 4 00 p m concert, 6 00 p m banquet, and 8 00 to 11 00 p m open house.

Special Youth Services Held Sunday Evening at Knox United Church

A special service occurred Sunday evening May 27 at Knox United Church with Rev. Ross Williams officiating. Kindergarten and Primary Sunday School classes recited scripture memory work and chevron certificates were presented to two C.G.L.T. groups Friends and Fireflies. The C.G.L.T. also donated communion ware to the church and money to Wellman Camp. Hi C, Canadian Girls in Training, Explorers, Tyros and Messengers supported Mission Service gifts. R. Watson spoke for the Christian Education Committee and the congregation gathered in the basement for refreshments and to view the children's work.

Reported turnout across Roblin area oral polio vaccine clinics from May 14 to May 16 shows an 81.5 percent participation. Two Films Shown At U C W Meeting May 22

The United Church Women held a May 22 meeting in Knox United Church basement with worship led by Maureen Williams and Betty Keast. A program featured two films about Winnipeg facilities for children and senior housing projects. The group discussed Sunday School picnic plans, manse needs, and a donation to United Church College.

AG Rep Urges Sowing Grass and Clover Seed Mixes

For several years farmers struggled to get good grass and legume stands, but this year promises better moisture and humidity for germination. Farmers short on pasture should consider grass mixtures with one to two pounds of clover per acre to boost first cut yields, then allow other grasses to establish. We offer guidance on soil suited grasses and varieties to fit local conditions to improve success.

Manitoba Teacher Society names Prefontaine to education committee

The Manitoba Teachers Society created a committee to study educational standards and certification for teachers. P Prefontaine, holder of BA B Ped and BEd from the University of Manitoba, was named to the panel. He served on the 1960 General Course Seminar and earned an International Nickel Co. Scholarship in 1961 for guidance and counselling studies. He also holds the rank of Flying Officer with the University Reserve Training Plan.
