Community rink fundraiser and improvements update

The new arena shingles are completed and more funds are needed. An amateur night on June 2 invites entries via Gerald Horbay or Fred Newton, with proceeds supporting the arena. A paint project under the province will be free labor, requiring semi gloss paint donations via Fred’s office. Donations and auction items are being collected, with Harold Kroll of Roblin the prior week’s winner.

Makaroff Women's Institute Meets at Mrs Addis Home

The Makaroff W I gathered at Mrs K Addis home with 7 members and 1 visitor. Officers presided as roll call yielded 2.04 for Surprise Packages and a treasury balance of 22.05. Reports covered Sunshine gifts, hospital aid, kitchen equipment, and plans for a June Grandmothers Social and a provincial convention delegation.

Province Expands School Aid With Higher Foundation Support

The Minister of youth and education announced increases in the foundation program raising the provincial share from 70% to 75% and a farm and residential property levy reduction of 1.5 mills. Additional grants of 18.00 per student and 12.00 for textbooks accompany the shift, with a pledge to bolster funding for education amid broader tax changes and calls to strengthen public schooling.

Dillin announces daughter Gayle wed Earl Elder in Winnipeg

Mr and Mrs Harold Dillin announce the marriage of their daughter Gayle to Mr Earl Elder son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Elder. The ceremony occurred Saturday May 15 at Home Street United Church Winnipeg. An informal supper reception for friends and relatives will be held at the Dillin residence Sunday May 23 from 4 p m to 7 p m.

Driver Education Courses Run at Roblin High School

Roblin hosted two Manitoba Driver Training Division courses in late 1970 and early 1971. Forty-two students enrolled, including 31 Roblin residents and 11 from St. Vlad’s College, with 25 hours of class and 16 hours of in‑car training. Certificates and trophies will be awarded. Cross‑Town Motors supplied the cars.

Roblin Gun Club High Winds Challenge Evening Scores

High winds tested shooters at Roblin Gun Club Thursday as top marks went to Jesse Wardle and Wilf Bouvier. Leroy Pitt won the Miss and Out. lone lady shooter Yvette Bouvier. Visitors included Tom Linton and a friend from Esterhazy. The club seeks new local shooters as several members left last year. Regular shoots occur each Thursday. grounds praised for scenery.

Three Fire Calls Answered By Roblin Fire Department

Dry windy conditions fuel fire risk as Roblin Fire Department responds to three calls. At 3:30 p.m. Friday May 14 they doused a lumber pile blaze at Roblin Forest Products Co. Ltd. By 9:30 p.m. that day a blaze near the Shell River west of the Alex Moore farm spread into a 1,000 acre wooded area. On Saturday at 5:30 p.m. wind rekindled the bush fire near Harold Kroil farm, with embers flying toward the site.

Roblin Curling Rink Renovations Meet Plans Funds and Sales

The Ways and Means and Building committees met May 13 with ten members. Donations totaled 708 to the Building Fund, bake and rummage sales planned May 22 to support rink renovations, two new outside doors and roof joists purchased, waiting room addition progressing, and next meeting set for June 17 at 8 p.m.

The Roblin School Band placed second at the Centennial Instrumental Band contest in Souris on May 8. Altona won first with Hamitota third. $500, $300, and $200 prizes were awarded. Roblin Collegiate May Events Highlight Track and Baseball

Roblin Collegiate held a May 11 track meet with 12B winning best boys room and 12C winning best girls room plus all round room. 12C girls relay and 110 boys relay led relays. 12C and 12¢ dominated events. In Inter-High baseball Gilbert Plains beat Roblin 16–11 for girls and 14–3 for boys on May 13. results to follow next week. Twilight Meet set for May 20. Variety Concert moved to May 27 at 8 p.m.

Mixed 2 Ball Foursome Golf Trophy At Roblin

Forty eight golfers competed in the Roblin Golf Club event held Sunday May 18th. After nine holes, supper followed by awards from the Men’s and Ladies’ clubs. Winners across three flights included Hampson Latimer Roblin Peppler and Yeo Keast Paley and Boguski Simpson Motyka and Smandych with golf balls as prizes.
