The Legion Ladies' Auxiliary met April 10 at 8 pm in the Legion Club Room with fourteen members. Officers and delegates were nominated, plans discussed for Salvation Army events, a past president’s badge presented, and lunch duties assigned for May events.
The Lutheran Ladies Aid of St. Matthew’s met April 5 at the home of Mrs. D Becker with eleven members and three visitors. Rev P Borchardt led a discussion on The Holy Ghost and His Work from What Does The Bible Say. Mrs Wilderman presided. minutes were read and approved. Reports noted church equipment purchases and rug fasteners for the carpet.
A meeting of the Duck Mountain Game and Fish Association was held Monday April 30 in the Legion Club rooms at the Memorial hall Dublin. Highlights include a trophy for the member bringing in the most crow legs or magpie legs a tally kept with Ansone seeing pheasants urged to report locations to R L Azareo T J Linton and a prize for the three largest fish weighed at the Co op store. The association asks sportsmen to refrain from shooting pheasants to help population growth and add beauty to outdoors.
Ag rep reports a Judging Day for Roblin Luetriet club members on April 26 at Memorial Hall. Vegtable pram tractor and clothing clubs judged rooms demonstrated projects while beef clubs evaluated feeder steers breeding heifers and Yorkshire swine at farms. A social evening drew 276 attendees under Harry Oliphant with praise for leaders and plans for more days this spring and summer.
Keith Alexander summarizes Manitoba's 1962 budget as Premier Duff Roblin notes a return to momentum after 1961 drought, with $770,000 aid for feed shortages and heavy investment in power, roads, agriculture, and university research. The piece contrasts Liberal and NDP positions and defends Roblin Government’s course for private enterprise and provincial prosperity.
About Town notes extensive Easter gatherings with Staple and Dyck families in Winnipeg and Dauphin. Several residents, including Earl Mickelson, F Y Newton, Jill Wade and others, hosted and visited relatives in Cran dell and Isa bella while Miss Dawn Harper and Donna Lou Ford spent time in Winnipeg and McCreary. The Roblin and District Community Musical Group performed Stainer's Crucifixion in the High School auditorium drawing an audience from Yorkton Togo Makaroff Inglis and Grandview. The choir begins a new repertoire and invites interested singers to join regular members. Perhaps the basis for most of our gripes about the younger generation is that we no longer belong to it.
In Manitoba on May 1 1962 the Roblin village became the Town of Roblin by Royal assent to Bill No 82. The text notes boundary changes from Shell River RM and cites growth in real estate and business assessments, population rise from 800 in 1945 to 1425 in 1962, and Roblin’s role as gateway to Duck Mountain.
Word, Clifton Horner Burns, John Halkewich, Clinton Bruce Howell and other locals are memorialized in Roblin area notices. Services held in Knox United Church Roblin and Roblin Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church with interments at Forest Lawn and Green Acres. Surviving family members include spouses, children, grandchildren, and siblings across Ontario, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbors for acts of kindness during bereavement. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Roblin Hospital for the excellent care shown our brother during his illness.
The Roblin and District Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Award Dinner was held in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday April 24 with about 75 attendees. Guest speaker S Jackson of the Pharmaceutical Association spoke on price indexes and drug industry advances, noting democratic free enterprise and contrasting Russia’s space work. Mr J Collins thanked Jackson, and highlights included awards to Mr and Mrs H M Keay and family for 1961 and to Mr and Mrs F H Chase for 1960. Mrs Peter Nowosad outlined horticultural competition rules. Mr Jesse Wardle presented Caribbean cruise slides to close the evening.
