Establishment of C Y C at Sacred Heart Church

The Sacred Heart Parish forms a Catholic Young People’s Organization with two youth groups from Roblin Shortdale and Grandview Gilbert Plains. The initial gathering on March 25 included Holy Communion, a sermon by Rev ZA Baczkowski, and election of officers Velda Safronetz Lenore Beermay Thomas Marcimiece. The pro tem chair was Pat Orr and secretary Janet Korzenowsk. The event ended with prayer and lunch.

Roblin and District Home and School Meeting Review

The Roblin and District Home and School met at the Intermediate School on Wednesday March with O Canada and the Home and School prayer. Volunteers reported $25.21 from Parents Day tea with 125 attendees. kindergarten actions were deferred with future meetings planned. Cub Scouts requested a Home and School rep for their committee. a Father Son Banquet in April prompted catering interest. slides from Lyle Gregory’s Europe trip were shown. the evening closed with a social lunch.

Ag Rep Reports Dauphin Livestock Tour Visit

Two carloads of farmers toured Dauphin farms on March 27 arranged by Ag Rep Dave Hill to observe automation in seed cleaning and treating at Russ Ritchie, barn cleaning at Phillips, and automatic watering, feeding, and housing systems. The group examined hog and cattle setups, a 15 000 turkeys operation with two automated houses, and noted reduced labor and straw use. Further tour details appear next week.

Presentation Made To Mrs Hazel Ford Retiring Leader

The Memorial Staff of Evangeline Rebekah Lodge No. 41 Roblin attended the Manitoba Rebekah Assembly meeting March 19 20 21 and 22 1962 at the Marlborough Hotel Wanna pes. A Memorial Service for deceased members was led by PING with narrators and a large list of soloists. A presentation honored Mrs Hazel Ford retiring Assembly President from Evangeline Lodge and the Past Noble Grands Association. A lamp for the Charleswood home was given and Evangeline No 41 received the International Honor Roll Award.

The Rochedale District celebrates H M Keay and wife Alice and family as the 1961 Agricultural Award recipients chosen by a five member committee including outside district reps. The Keays, longtime mixed farmers near Inglis, operate seven quarters with cattle hogs poultry and grain and have added a shelterbelt and new home since 1960. Their children Bonnie Elaine and Richard attend Rochedale School and participate in 4 H, hockey, and church activities.

William James Westwood dies at 74 in Russell

Funeral services were held March 10 at Knox United Church Russell for William James Westwood who died March 7 at Sacred Heart Hospital aged 74. He was born near Rapid City Manitoba and served in the Manitoba Legislature for Roblin. later ran a hardware business in Russell. Survived by wife Carrie three sons Fred Harold and Bill ten grandchildren and one brother.

Thirty Six Coyotes Killed In Hillsburg Municipality

M J Semochko a flying hunter from Russell Manitoba and gunners J Willis Lawrence Honey and John Parabee bagged thirty six coyotes and three red foxes in Hillsburg Municipality with shells shot from a Piper PA 13 at about thirty feet altitude. The group reports disease in many animals and two rabid coyotes tested but results pending. They note nine licensed pilots operate from planes in Manitoba for coyote and fox hunting and crop spraying in summers.
