First General Test Of Brucellosis Area Made
The first general test of cattle for brucellosis in the Shell River Brucellosis Control Area was completed on March 5 1962. Total herds 432 with 12040 cattle on premises 6025 tested 24 reactors found 18 infected herds. Compensation paid to owners of infected animals 171900 dollars. Infection rate 19 percent and 4.16 percent per herd.

At the March 7 1962 Hillsburg Municipal Council meeting chaired by Reeve John Perchaluk Jr the minutes of the prior session were adopted. The council resolved to request the Department of Agriculture appoint an Agricultural Engineer with an office in Dauphin to work with the Extension Service and approved accounts for payment totaling 2442.53 across cheques 299 to 336.

Dr. Reid of the Dauphin Health and Animals Branch reported 59 confirmed rabies cases in the district through January 31 1961. Skunks led with 50 infections followed by 3 cats 2 dogs 3 cows and 1 coyote in the McCreary RM.
