Spring Snow Falls on Roblin Despite Vernal Equinox
Winter lingers in Roblin as March 21 dawns with 15 below and a frosty morning. Snow wanes by evening with wind chipping the drift, while hardy residents wonder if spring has truly arrived. robins and larks are still distant, awaiting warmer days and gradual warmth.

Mrs P Camerons visiting in Winnipeg for two weeks and Mrs Puritch returning home after two weeks there. The Dauphin Travellers rink beat Roblin Merchants 7 to 4, with Gerega rink ahead of Latimer on the tenth end. Mr and Mrs Oliphant of Dauphin visited Dauphin residents D H Oliphant and family. Big Gamey returned from Winnipeg where he visited Mr M Clark in hospital.

Three Hurt In $25,000 Hotel Blaze
At Gilbert Plains Manitoba a two storey King Edward hotel was destroyed by a fire around 4 a.m. causing severe burns to owner William Paziuk his wife and his 19 year old son Robert who jumped from a second floor room. Firefighters arrived at 11 a.m. with winds hampering efforts. No other guests were present and nearby shops were spared though power and telephone lines were damaged.

The group noted their 25th year with a May birthday meeting, and members were asked to bring ideas for celebration.

Steve Miller Guest Speaker At M F U Meeting
At the M F U meeting on March 17 Mr Steve Miller Vice President for Manitoba delivered a broad talk on several topics. He noted progress after 13 days of negotiations to amalgamate the M F U and M F A C sub committees with only one sticking point over affiliate with the parent body. He urged a four year clause in the constitution and annual open conventions. He warned about packers and grain mislabeling and discussed crop insurance municipalization ideas with premiums kept in local banks and potential protection for poor risk areas.

Obituary for Carl Theodor Ottosen in Roblin
Funeral services were held Saturday March 19 1955 for Carl Theodor Ottosen who died at his son Sigurd Olsens residence in Roblin. The Kingdom Hall Roblin hosted with Adam Hume officiating. Pallbearers were T Mann J Boyko J Gartner W Bahruy M Markoky L Ove. Ottosen born in Denmark 63 years ago married Thea Olsen in 1915. He came to Canada in 1952 retiring as a carpenter. Survived by his wife two sons Sigurd and Hans Olsen both of Roblin two sisters Kirstine and Safie Petersen of Denmark and a brother Rasmus Ottosen of Denmark.

Dauphin Woman Lorraine McIntyre Dies at 37
Lorraine McIntyre of Dauphin Manitoba died March 16 1955 at Rublin District Hospital at age 37 after a long illness. She was born in Neepawa and lived in Fort William Ontario before moving to Dauphin in 1948. She married Fred McIntyre in Grand View United Church March 18. Pallbearers included R Topham Jack Caldwell and others. interment Grandview Cemetery. She leaves parents Mr and Mrs Jack McFadyen and three sisters.

The 1955 Easter Seal Campaign in Manitoba runs from March 15 to April 15 under the Kinsmen Clubs. Chairman Bult A. Robinson, Winnipeg Kinsmen, leads the drive to fund the Society for Crippled Children which operates a cerebral palsy centre in Winnipeg Children’s Hospital and two weekly clinic sessions. Proceeds finance braces, prosthetics, transport, and related services, with seals mailed province wide to raise awareness and funds.
