About 260 parents visited Roblin Public School on Friday March 7 to view children’s books and projects. Volunteers including mothers assisted classrooms, enabling teachers to attend a workshop. posters were made and activities such as hot chocolate and skate tying were offered on occasion. Adult reading books on parenting and education were displayed and available on request.
In a clutch meeting to decide the Snake Creek League title Foxwarren derailed Roblin with a 12 minute decider. Kostick scored the deciding goal after a 5 5 deadlock late in regulation. Hilland Doering Andres Daniels added goals as Foxwarren sealed top spot.
At the Roblin Kinsmen Club regular meeting Roger Patil spoke on India as part of International Relations Week. Eighteen members attended and heard Dr. Paul. Danny Kostick spoke on attending a Quetico leadership camp last summer sponsored by the local club.
Phyllis Ostrowski was crowned Queen of the Ice Carnival by Mr. Howard Wilson in Roblin on March 7. Margaret Davey and Linda Gardner were first and second princesses with Yorkton Club skaters as crown bearers. The event featured Roblin figure skaters and 45 Yorkton skaters, plus costume judging, a broom ball match, and greetings from Mayor George Giles and Hospital Aid president Mrs. Essie Cross. Proceeds benefit local hospital supplies.
A columnist cites a 1899 furniture slip and argues mass media and sales methods obscure value. It promotes the Consumers Association of Canada and Consumer Union guides as sources for unbiased product evaluations before spending 200 to 300 dollars on appliances, urging readers to act their wages.
Wally McKenzie, MLA for Roblin, urges Manitoba government to aid farmers facing debt and grain spoilage from damp, frozen stocks and low quotas. Following Gerald Harper's resignation in Roblin a by-election was held March 7 at the Elks Hall. Walter Lupichuk won with 242 votes to Joe Perchaluk's 229.
The Grandview School Division outlines starting September 1 1969 a vertical administration for Grandview Collegiate and Elementary Schools with Mr Mel F Graves as principal over both institutes. The move aims at continuity of subjects Grades I to XI and better teacher coordination. A March 20 Parents Night will review plans.
Premier Walter Weir announced in the Legislature that provincial financial support to the school foundation program will rise to 70 percent from 65 percent. He also said unconditional municipal grants will increase from $3 per person to $8.
The Duck Mountain Game and Fish Bonspiel began Saturday night and ended Sunday with 16 rinks competing including visitors from Grandview Gilbert Plains and Inglis. Banquet at Orthodox Church basement featured prize presentations by Jim Ready. First Event winners were Wes Powell Mavis Ready Dwayne Sutton and Shirley Sutton. Second Event winners were Rudy Wowk Nat McKay Bruce Davis and Mrs Wowk.
The Roblin Collegiate hosts a community Parents Night on Thursday from 4 30 to 9 30 p m. Invitations go to enrolled students but any resident may tour the school. There are 15 minute teacher interviews and displays including new home economics and industrial arts, with educational films and a lunch provided.
Mr and Mrs Harvey Ballard announce the arrival of a son named Brian Norman born February 24 weighing 7 pounds 14 ounces. The baby joins the Ballard family with relatives awaiting share of joy and photos.
Barbara Carey, soprano soloist from Westminster United Church Regina, joins the Roblin School Band Concert on March 14. Sister Mrs Pat Mossing will accompany on piano. Tickets available from band members.
January and February 1969 court outcomes under the Criminal Code of Canada list sentence actions for multiple defendants. Notable items include six month suspended sentence for Robert Postnikoff Gilbert Plains and 23 months at Dauphin Correctional Institute for Patrick Gillen Russell Manitoba on three charges, with Zenan Lysohirka Roblin awaiting sentence. Remaining entries cover fines, jail time, and reprimands for numerous individuals across Manitoba and Winnipeg locations.

The Chamber received a map of the proposed Asessippi Provincial Park with a letter from J B Carroll promoting a single south entrance. Roblin officials push for a north entrance and invite public input at the Review Office. The town studies street signs amid a house number survey. Envelopes with the Roblin map sold out. a new batch will be used by Cubs door to door. Ken Gaber and Grace Gaber will represent Roblin at the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce Convention in Winnipeg this month.
The Rapeseed Association reports exports of 7,200,000 bushels at mid 1968-69 crop year, up from 5,400,000 bushels in the first half of 1967-68. This marks a substantial year over year increase in early season shipments.
Canada announces March as National Honey Month with emphasis on honey’s role in the diet. Donald Langevin of Grand Narrows Sodbusters 4-H Club earns Canadian Hall Universities Pen and Pencil set for seed club work. Manitoba seed club has 41 members, 495 participants, with 10 regional fairs and show events at Brandon exhibition.
