Roblin Intermediate School held a two event bonspiel at the Roblin Curling Rink on March 14 15 with 22 rinks. Peter Carriere’s rink won the first event and Larry Sylvester’s rink won the second.
Forty representatives from nine municipalities and the Provincial government met in Inglis to discuss inter municipal co operation and a potential first regional planning system. Shellmouth Dam area planning and a motor road through Riding Mountain National Park were on the agenda with future meetings planned.
The Roblin School Band held its annual spring concert in Roblin Collegiate Auditorium on Friday night March 14. Conductor D Arcy Massing of Regina led a varied program with marches symphonies pop tunes and hymns. Guest artist Linda Setchell 16 baton twirler from Regina dazzled with tap numbers and twirling while the band accompanied. Soprano Barbara Carey of Westminster United Church Regina performed several numbers with piano accompaniment by her sister Pat Massing. Beginners appeared for the first time in band uniform and trophies were presented to past winners by local officials.
Funeral services were held in Roblin Manitoba for Ethel Leflar 87 who died March 11 1969 in Roblin District Hospital. Rev Hamlin presided at Roblin Memorial Chapel with interment in Roblin District Cemetery. Surviving are three sons two daughters thirteen grandchildren eighteen great grandchildren and three sisters in Ontario.
The Roblin Ladies Bonspiel opened Monday March 10 with 28 rinks including 14 club rinks four locals and ten visiting from Calder Makaroff San Clara MacNutt Dauphin Grandview Binscorth and Dropmore. Mitchell Trophy went to V Davis rink Makaroff first event. Large Event won by B Bangle San Clara. Scott Event claimed by B Davis rink. Lawrence Event top honors to B Doole Dropmore. Mary Sorbo rink had the largest end. Banquet followed with Irene songs and lamp draw won by Mrs Toots Bennett.

William Procyshyn of Dauphin has purchased Roblin Dry Cleaners from Nick Bodnar and took possession on Saturday March 15. Procyshyn has 15 years in dry cleaning with previous stops at Specialty Cleaners and Modern Cleaners in Dauphin. He will offer carpet and upholstery services in Roblin and resides there with his wife Carol and two children Bruce and Joann.
This week featured strong hockey showings including Ituna Maple Leafs versus St Vlads with St Vlads winning 7 to 2 after a strong third period. Roy Yaworski and McMillen led St Vlads with multiple goals and assists, while Ituna pressed with their top line missing.
Hillsburg council chair Reeve John Perchaluk Jr led a March 13 1969 meeting with all councillors present. They approved continuing road dragging on provincial routes for 1969 70 and instructed snowplow priority to open main roads first. A grant application for 1969 summer director was to be submitted. The recreational director program was deemed financially unviable this year. Accounts payable totaled 2668 25 Cheques 3131 to 3148. Next meeting set for April 10 at 1 39 pm.
At a March 13 meeting in Roblin Mayor George Giles led council through account approvals and tender awards. The van shed is sold for 225 dollars, hall caretaker contract set at 44 50 monthly, a 500 dollar grant to the recreation commission, and a 3700 dollar portable steam boiler purchase from Kipp Kelly Co Ltd was approved.
Historic Pyott bridge on the Assiniboine River was dismantled leaving only approaches and pillars. Built in 1956 it was among Canada’s largest laminated beam bridges and replaced an earlier crossing. With both bridges gone the Dropmore route is cut off and residents face longer detours via Shellmouth or Saskatchewan as the boundary road remains under construction.

Mrs Fred Chappel of Barrie Ontario died in Royal Victoria Hospital March 8. Albert Jones of Roblin was honored at Yorkton Sno Sho 69 for Old Time Fiddlers, 85-year-old participant earned consolation and senior praise. Roblin Branch CACR holds April 1 meeting at 8 pm in new Intermediate School with Brian Holiday as speaker.
Linda and Lee LaRocque announce the arrival of a 9 pound daughter Wendy Lee on Thursday March 13 at Dauphin General Hospital.
The Togo Figure Skating Club hosted a March 8 carnival inviting 19 girls from Togo to perform at the local rink. Diane Baumung taught the group after national tests in Esterhazy. She emphasized practice and steady progress for skaters of all speeds, noting lessons extend beyond theory.
