Prisoner of war Hugh Belcher writes from Germany to his parents noting a quiet week and plans for a Christmas with Red Cross parcels. He describes make do decorations, a 4 engined cardboard plane, a Red Cross box cracker, and a brief respite as bracelets are removed for a free Christmas day. He mentions ration limits, transport difficulties, and rough conditions with fleas, ending with a holiday greeting.
Roblin issued 331 Ration Book No 2 at the town office on Saturday with thanks to the school staff Red Cross and citizens who contributed. Those without No 2 should apply using the back card of Book No 1 and mail it to the nearest Wartime Prices and Trade Board ration office.
James P Cooper of Bield enlisted in the Canadian Active Army at Winnipeg last week. Born in Bield twenty years ago he joined the service on February 18. A radio operator by trade in civilian life. His next of kin is his mother Mrs Lucy Cooper of Bield.
The National Red Cross kickoff on March 1 launches a $10,000,000 drive with Manitoba’s share set at $600,000 and Roblin District allotment of $1,700. Citizens are urged to contribute via Mitchell's Drug Store or by canvassers calling on residents.
The Review updates its mailing list over the weekend to drop in arrears subscribers while paid in advance receive preference. C.G.LT Ice Carnival Friday March 5 Roblin Skating Rink Stella Yourchek departed for Winnipeg.
Cromarty pioneer farmer Boulton Holmes of Carberry Plains died Thursday February 25 at Misericordia Hospital Winnipeg. He was born 1856 in Owen Sound Ontario and lived in Cartwright Dublin and Carberry before settling locally. He leaves a daughter Mrs H R Richard and a son Dan in British Columbia. Funeral Saturday afternoon with Rev LD Conly officiating. Pallbearers listed. Pte Ralph Brydon visited home Saturday.
