Thelma Nowlin, Boggy Creek and Grace Poucher of Beild join 44 recruits bound for Vermilion for four weeks basic training. Private Lillian D McConnell of 344 Sixteenth St Brandon among 28 Canadian Women's Army Corps graduates May 25th in Edmonton typing and shorthand course. McConnell born Roblin Man and formerly a dental assistant.

Greek War Relief Fund Campaign Opens June 6 in Manitob a

To ease starving conditions in Greece a Greek War Relief Fund drive begins Monday June 6 in Manitoba. Citizens are asked to contribute 30000 dollars for food medical and other supplies purchased by the Canadian Red Cross. Donations may be left at Mitchells Drug Store or the Royal Bank and canvassers will call on residents.

Kinamen Milk-for-Britain Fund Tag Day Success

A Kinamen's Milk-for-Britain tag day organized by the C.G.I.T. under Mrs. J. Fowlie and Mrs. D. Con ley raised 109.00 sending 1090 quarts of dried milk to Winnipeg. The Roo jin School Homemaking Class led by Miss Glazer contributed 18.16 to the Milk-for-Britain Babies Fund.

Local Sports Organized For Community Games

A community sports programme includes softball volleyball and tennis for interested residents. Four softball teams compete with Colin Cameron leading one side against Gib Fisher’s team by 8 to 6 in the opening match. Peter Funk Dies After Lingering Illness

Peter Funk aged 51 died at his home on Monday June 7 after a lingering illness. He was born in Rosenfield Manitoba and lived in the Shell River municipality for 24 years. Funeral service set for Friday June 11 at 1 30 p m at the United Church with interment at Roblin cemetery. Mrs Glen Finch and family are visiting Grand Narrows with Mr and Mrs J H Dixon.

WV Bundles Shipments From June Meeting Include 93 Articles

A WV Bundles shipment sent from the June 4 weekly sewing meeting includes 93 garments such as dresses coats suits sweaters and more prepared since the April 2 prior shipment. Quilts and pieces were made by longtime worker Mrs Glover with 52 quilt tops noted. Credit is given to Mrs E Glover and her daughter Miss Hattie Glover for knitting and sewing efforts.

Bridge Finals Crown Rosen and Speigleman Champions

The Gleiser Bridge Club wrapped up its spring tournament with Messrs Rosen and Speigleman defeating Newton and a partner to claim the finals victory.

Final playoff crowns Mrs Nelson in tournament finish

The event began with 20 couples, eight reached the second round, then halves were eliminated each round. Mr Gleiser funded cup polishing and engraving, winners names paid from receipts. Net receipts of 12.25 donated to the Soldiers Parcel Fund.
