Pte D Ferguson from Fort Garry training centre weekends with wife and daughter. Mrs F Robertson and Mrs J Burgess of Russell visit Mrs Geo Kelso. Verna Yourchek visits relatives in Vancouver. Mrs Wm Yourchek spends days with friends at Makaroof.
Govenor Lester of Camp Shilo returns on leave. C T Argent notes Sgt W Bushby arrived safely in England. Patriotic dance at the hall drew a good crowd. Mrs T Roberts Corwena visit Sudbury Ont and Mrs Jose Margaret visit Winnipeg relatives. Ayer visit Victoria BC. Lavina Ferguson from Makaroff visits friends. Ward and Sanders hosts near Flin Flon.
Tobog News notes Sgt Warren Eddy of Rivers spends a holiday with his parents. Wm Smout returned from Carrot River after visiting friends. Lieut Everett Brown returns to Winnipeg after a week with his parents. Anick couple leave for Hyas Sask to manage an elevator. Arthur Topham attends his sister’s funeral in Vancouver. Moulgdales of Winnipeg return home after visiting L Learn. Hug Evans and family visit J W Eddy and Madge Lake. Arthur Rooke of New Westminster visits R F Painter family. Visitors welcomed as always.
Friends in Togo and district learn of Mrs Geo Craig’s death on July 19 at St Pauls Hospital Vancouver. Born Nellie Topham in Lancashire on February 7, 58 years ago, she lived in Togo 37 years before moving to Vancouver with George Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Craig about a year ago. She was active in church women’s groups and known for hospitality. Survived by husband, two daughters, one son, sister and four brothers.
Mrs W Kerswell visited Dauphin and Winnipegosis last week. Mrs W Scott of Roblin guests of Mrs Beattie last Friday. Many attended the Yorkton fair. Mr and Mrs N Young of Russell visited town Monday. Mrs Phil McGinnis and daughter Pat visiting Russell. Gordon Pound returned to Brendon after furlough with family here. Mr and Mrs G Davis of The Pas visited Mrs Spear’s family last week. Mr and Mrs Reg Grundy and sons of Cypress River with Mrs A Grundy and Blake of Winnipeg are visiting.
Friends and relatives visited Deepdale and Makaroff from Mrs F Grundy’s family as Mrs S Rogers returned from Russell after months with her daughter Mrs N Young. Mr and Mrs Dwyer and son, with several others, drove to the city. Mrs Arnott came back from the city after a week away for her mother’s illness. Mrs Beattie and children returned from Sylvania Sask after two months with her parents. L Cpl Harry Robinson, injured, is now able to leave hospital after three months. Tom Boyce returned from the city after a successful operation, with daughter Muriel spending holidays at home.
The Makaroff Calf Club held its first fair on Friday July 23 with perfect weather and a large crowd. The event supported the boys and girls as they competed and were praised for participation and success.
Mr Good of Sourts and Miss Edna McConnell of Dauphin presided as awards were placed. About 140 attendees were served a banquet at The Hall. Mrs F Curle presented prizes and Miss McConnell addressed the crowd. Winners included John Large and Leonard Grundy. Other prizes covered Best Groomed Calf, Best Trained Calf, and Best Showmanship.
Mereridal Pte. M Michalevich of Medicine Hat returns home on furlough after the birth of a daughter Mary Anne on July 14. John Prior is back from Winnipeg and has passed for the air force with a ten day haying leave. Trevor Poyser survives a carbon monoxide incident on the Alcan Highway when his truck engine kept running after a wheel fell away. a fellow soldier pulled him free and he then drove 30 miles to his destination.
