Community skating night draws largest crowd yet

Thursday's program drew the biggest attendance as residents of Roblin and district enjoyed a community rink event. Volunteers report ongoing finish work, kitchen cupboards, plumbing, and electrical progress, inviting rural neighbors to Sunday 46, Monday 7 9, and Thursday 7 9 sessions. Draw winners over the last two weeks were Lena Chyz and Harold Keast.

Roblin Mustangs eliminated by Swan River in MAHA playoff

Swan River defeated Roblin 14-10 on aggregate after 9-6 and late rally 9-6 wins. Roblin led early but Swan River outscored them in key moments with 46-19 shots in the deciding game. Cliff Pomedli and Terry Kostick led Roblin scorers while Swan River's Robert Genoway netted three goals.

Roblin Considers Downtown Community Book Depot

A Wednesday meeting in Roblin recommended establishing a downtown community book depot soon as part of Parkland Regional Library Services plans. Miss Ruth McDormand outlined services and a four week book turnaround with about 200 books initially, tailored to local interests, and Mrs. Petar Nowosad announced the proposal to the Roblin town council for facilities. The Intermountain School Division supported aiding the new library project and about 30 residents attended the session.

Afternoon Curlers Entertain Evening Ladies Club

Sixteen rinks took part in a small spiel by the Afternoon Ladies Club on February 13 and 14 to entertain Roblin Evening Club teams. Warm weather slowed games but Ralph De La Mare and Lawrence Dietrich kept the ice usable. In the main event Ist Dee Bowley and Vera Dillin placed, while Eva Spear and Vi Poacher won the second event and Barb Latimer’s rink claimed the Big-end trophy.

Roblin Council Approves Grant and By law Actions

Roblin town council held February 11 1971 under Mayor F A Newton with councilors Hilland Brade Horbay and Nash present. A $5000 grant to Roblin District Community Centre Board was approved to establish an operating fund. By laws 718 719 and 720 were passed creating a police service agreement with RCMP water and sewer storage shed reserve and a general reserve fund for Water and Sewer Utility.

Air Cadets Parade Shows Cadet Improvements and Awards

On Tuesday February 16 47 cadets plus four officers four instructors and seven visitors paraded. AC2 Wayne Gorda of Roblin won the most improvement award receiving the lanyard and a dollar. Inspector Captain Paul Galatiuk led the review with Lt Graham Galatiuk and Flight-Sergeant David Bowley assisting.

A sale at Roblin Auction Mart on Thursday February 18 1971 handled 890 head of livestock. Included were 98 cattle 17 sows 13 boars 249 weanling and feeder pigs 10 horses and 3 sheep with various butcher cattle and stock cow listings noted.

Tummel 4-H Beef Club Meeting Notes

The Tummel 4-H Beef Club met at the Cranwell home on February 1. Seven speeches were delivered and a $25 contribution to the 4-H Council was approved. The club earned about $34 from a telephone whist drive and scheduled an elimination public speaking contest for the next meeting. Winners may enter Roblin Public Speaking Contest. next gathering at the Doole residence on March 10.

The Roblin Credit Union reports total assets of 1 388 340 after a 1970 year ending. Annual meeting at Sacred Heart Church heard guest Barney Martin of the Credit Union League of Manitoba. 178 new member applications and 1606 total members reported. 456 loans totalling nearly 400 000 approved.

Shell River Council Applies For 1971 Recreation Grant

The Shell River Rural Municipality council met February 9 1971 with Reeve F H Wilson presiding. They approved January minutes and a February 2 special meeting, accepted Parkway Co op fuel tender at 20.9 cents per gallon diesel for 1971, and Pete Peteleski’s hauling bid. They hired machine operators for the Cats and appointed Peter Styba as Emergency Measures Organization contact. They will pay the Roblin Veterinary Service District 2400 dollars for 1971, with a 1:30 pm March 9 meeting.
