Rink Corner Updates On Arena Progress And Appeals

Roblin North Stars Hockey Week Recap and Playoff Loss

The Roblin North Stars won two games in league action from February 8 defeating Russell Rams 68 to 3 and Minitonas 9 to 7 with multiple scorers and assists led by Roy Yaworsky and Jim McMillan. They then faced Snow Lake in the playoff series suffering a two game to none defeat as one healthy defenseman sustained a broken nose.

Air Cadets Parade Highlights February Activity

On February 10, 49 cadets plus four officers five instructors and seven visitors marched under C O supervision. Two Roblin recruits joined the cadets while the most improved cadet was L ALC George McDonald of Binscarth who earned the lanyard and a dollar. Courses included Navigation Citizenship First Aid Early Canadian Aviation and drill led by Lt Galatiuk.

Hrynkiw Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding in Roblin

Mr and Mrs John Hrynkiw marked their fiftieth anniversary with a family dinner at their Roblin home and a tea for about 50 friends. He came from Austria in 1913 and the couple wed in 1921, living in Postap before retiring to Roblin. Surviving children include Joe Peter and Norman, with three daughters and 24 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Nick died in 1968.

Roblin was defeated 6-1 by Dauphin in a fast skating junior hockey game on February 11. Paul Borchardt's goaltending limited the score while Jimmy Misener, a former Roblinite, added two goals for Dauphin. Roblin’s Merv Hilland scored the lone goal.

Delegates Report At Roblin Horticultural Society Meeting

Twenty three members and one visitor attended the Roblin Horticultural Society gathering on February 15 at 2 pm hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Baumung. President Eva Jory chaired the session and plans were approved to continue gladiolus bulb premiums through April end for renewals and new memberships.

Vehicle Registration Deadline Emphasized By Minister

Public Works and Highways Minister Joseph Borowski urges motorists to submit registrations in person after February 15 to ensure plates are ready for the new licence year. All vehicles must display new plates by midnight February 28. Registrations outside Winnipeg are handled by motor vehicle branch offices and over 100 agencies, including Jakeman Agencies in Roblin.
