Elephant Brand Dealers Return From Seminar

Garry Gaber of Roblin and Ralph Berke of Russell attended a two day fertilizer dealers training course in Brandon on January 30 and 31. The program, part of a Prairie Provinces series by Cominco Ltd, keeps Elephant Brand dealers up to date on soil fertilizer tech and customer service. Cominco, 95 percent Canadian owned, has produced fertilizer for nearly 40 years and now makes over one million tons annually for Western Canada and the United States.

Hillsburg Council Names Officers And Sets 1969 Rates

At the January 11 1969 Hillsburg Rural Municipality meeting Reeve John Perchaluk Jr and all councillors were sworn in Walter Soltys became Deputy Reeve for 1969. The council formed 1969 committees and set remuneration, wage rates and tax prepayment discounts.

Swan River Roblin Midgets play to a 5 5 draw in opener

The Swan River and Roblin Midgets tied 5 to 5 on Saturday night February 16 in a close checking game. Roblin scorers were Raymond Carriere with all five Roblin goals and East with three assists. Swan River tallied by Dixon Jones Rooks Neely and Hinkelman with assists from McLeod and Hunt. The next game is set for Wednesday February 19 in Swan River.

Power Toboggan Races Set for Roblin Area Sunday

The Roblin area hosts the first Power Toboggan Races on March 2 under Kinsmen Club sponsorship. Co operating groups Duck Mountain Game and Fish Assoc and Mark Valley Ski Slope expect annual events with races below Mark Valley Ski Centre seven miles west of Roblin in Assiniboine Valley. Parking at Wm Markoski yard. trophies awarded for each event. The day also features Mark Valley ski slope races with four events and trophies.

Knights of Columbus Elect New Officers

The Knights of Columbus of Roblin elected a slate of officers at a February meeting in Holy Redeemer Church Club Room. Elected were Presiding Grand Knight Emile Sebulski Deputy Grand Knight Mervin Yakimishyn Treasurer Peter Szydlowski Records Ron Landry Sentry Frank Maleshewski. The group will meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month.

Roblin Talent Nite Raises 1573.50 for Beach Project

A crowd of over 500 attended the Roblin Talent Nite at the Collegiate Auditorium on February 16th. The Kinsmen Club sponsored the event and C K D M Radio hosted it, with Jolly Jack Henderson and others keeping the pace. A total of 1573.50 was pledged for the Roblin District Beach Project, with 276.00 paid attendance and 80 percent to C E D M for conduct and broadcast.

The seventh annual Dauphin Presbyterial U C W meeting at St Andrew s United Church Swan River featured a luncheon and a girls quartet. Officers installed include Past President Mrs G Paulson Swan River President Mrs A Jeffrey Grand View and four vice presidents along with secretaries. The Roblin Hospital Aid hosts an ice carnival at the Roblin skating arena on Friday March 7 starting at 8 p.m. Queens candidates include Margaret Davey Linda Gardner and Phyllis Ostrowski with local sponsors. Gillen Sentenced to 23 Months in Dauphin Institute

Patrick Charles Gillen aged 19 of Russell Manitoba pleaded guilty to breaking and entering and theft charges stemming from two wrist watches stolen from Heming's Jewellery and a tape recorder taken from Marshall Wells. He also admitted to a Parkland Enterprise Car Wash break in. The court ordered 23 months concurrent at Dauphin Correctional Institute.

Weekend visits and events in Dauphin area

Local residents and guests visited various homes over the weekend including Dauphin and Winnipeg visitors. Events included the Legion Bonspiel in Roblin and Plumbers Bonspiel in Brandon. Kinsmen Schmockey Day receipts totaled 247 dollars with about 200 dollars to be given to the Minor Hockey Association.

Red Cross Days Observed With Church Tributes

March 1 and 2 mark Red Cross Sabbath and Sunday with churches and synagogues paying tribute to Red Cross volunteers. In Manitoba about 4,000 are members with another 50,000 regularly donating blood.
