Mr and Mrs Robert J Morrison announce the engagement of their daughter Janie to Ronald James Jeffery son of Mr and Mrs James Jeffery of Nanaimo British Columbia The wedding is set for March 1 at St Peters Roman Catholic Church Nanaimo B C
Last month Extension Home Economists learned of a four year degree change at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Lloyd outlined the revision from a three to four year program with shared initial years in chemistry biology psychology sociology and economics plus clothing textiles nutrition home management and child development.
At the Roblin Kinsmen meeting a pool equipment representative will discuss options for a swimming pool. Elks may also participate with their representatives at the next gathering. Schmockey Day drew crowds and is to be followed by a fuller report. Local Kinsmen and wives traveled to Russell for Charter Nite as C K D M Talent Nite at the Collegiate Auditorium looms this Saturday with expected strong support.
Chamber chatter notes Roblin faces a parking crunch as street congestion drives customers away. Proposals include back lot use by employees and a future plan to promote Roblin with 25 thousand promotional envelopes. Also mentions regional development talks, overnight campgrounds in Killarney and Russell, RCMP policing plans, and a Dryden Chemical Co sodium chlorate shipment from Brandon.
The region endures over five weeks of record cold then edges above the zero mark. Residents note relief from 20 to 40 below conditions and welcome a warmer spell after a harsh period.
Eighteen rinks competed as skips were drawn to assign balances. Forty curlers from Togo and district and thirty two from Runnymede Makaroff San Clara and Deepdale joined guests and donors at a Thursday banquet in the Community hall. Eight members attended the Bield 4-H Calf Club gathering at Earl Chases home on January 31. Leaders Mark Bailes and Oliver Ellis supervised the event with Billy Matsyk winning the Electric Car Warmer draw. A combined work and pleasure meeting is set for February 28 at the Field Skating Rink.
Roblin Bantams defeated Foxwarren 12 to 9 in the first playoff game on Sunday February 9. Roblin scorers included Bagan four Cowan two Doering two East two Safronetz two. Foxwarren goals came from Haney four with Wood Barnes McArthur Falloon Chartier and others contributing assists. Roblin carries a three goal cushion to Foxwarren for the rematch.
Bri an Alexander Donaldson aged 14 died Friday in Roblin after a 22 calibre rifle discharged accidentally by a playmate also aged 14. A preliminary inquest was ordered by Coroner J. Layng and an autopsy was arranged.
Mrs Wm Mampson and Reporter note Regina trips by families Ted Victor Linda and Henry Pister. Neil McKinnon flies to Holland to visit Pierre Hohle. Five rinks from Togo curl in San Clara Bonspiel February 5 to 15 led by Andrews Nabe Lee Duns and Bauming.
Mr and Mrs Chris Tummon represent The Roblin Horticultural Society as delegates to the Manitoba Horticultural Association Convention in Brandon this week. Also noted are visits by local residents over the weekend and a subscription renewal invitation from the Roblin Review.
Cromarty 4-H Club held a Telephone Whist Party on Friday February 7 at seven locations including Cromarty Hall. Winners include Jerry Hymkin in Men’s High and Rodney Danyelko in Men’s Law with Mrs Adolph Andres and Joanne Furtney tying for Ladies’ Law.
Municipal officials and Chamber of Commerce executives will converge on Dauphin February 17 for a one day seminar on development problems. Sponsored by the Manitoba Department of Industry and Commerce and Parkland Regional Development Inc., the program includes five speakers and a luncheon. Parkland's General Manager R W Kinney will speak This is Parkland followed by J S Merritt regional economic approach paper Dr R A Gallop Agri Food future and Paul Duval tourism potential. Hon Sidney Spivak will address the luncheon. Fred G McGuinness will speak on Paying the Rent with workshops to follow to set Parkland objectives and priorities. Parkland covers 10 000 square miles and a population of 60 000.
A town hockey feature recalls the Kinsmen Day events on Sunday February 9 with praise for community support and a tribute to a promising young player who died recently. The mothers versus Pee Wees games showcased sportsmanship, fast play, and fundraising for hockey and local needs.
The St Matthew's Lutheran Ladies Aid met February 6 with Rev. Borchardt leading prayer and study. New officers announced include Pres Mrs E Mohr and Sec Mrs J Puritch. Also planned bake sale and March of Dimes canvass with reports from various committees.
Gerald Charles Zimmer of Shellmouth Manitoba plays center forward for the Gallaudet College Ice Hockey Team in Washington D C. The freshman helped the team lead the Western Division of the Chesapeake Hockey League with 12 wins in 13 games. Home games are at the Washington Coliseum.
Mr and Mrs Neil Coleman of Winnipeg announce the birth of triplet boys Scott Neil Quinn Patrick and Derek Paul on February 2 1969. The siblings join Angela and Terry. Tragically Quinn Patrick died Friday February 7.
Mrs J Wardle Mrs BE Jory and Mrs M Robin attended the Presbyterian U C W annual meeting at Swan River. Graham Mitchell Bob Cross Steve Kurchak and Harvey Simpson left for Flin Flon to compete in the annual Bonspiel. Miss Kathleen Charman and Beverly Ayer of Brandon School of Nursing visited with their parents. The Roblin CGLT group held a weekly meeting on February 3 at the collegiate. Tickets for a bathroom set have been sold with the draw won by Carol Chalanchuk. Card parties are planned.
The Kinsmen Club and Chamber of Commerce bring the Ink Spots to Roblin on April 17 in the new school auditorium. The world famous group has starred in films and sold over three million records with the hit If I Dont Care. Two supporting acts accompany them for a two hour show. tickets to be sold by high school students.
