Hillsburg council approves 1960 road and staff actions
Hillsburg council met February 3 1960 with Reeve Joan Perchaluk present. They appointed Rupert Carr as solicitor and approved a 25 dollar retainer. The group endorsed forming a Health Unit and sought inclusion in a regional plan, asked Agriculture to push Brucellosis center status, and hired Ed Mysilchuk as motor grader operator at 1.10 per hour plus 10 cents for satisfactory service. Tendered D7 operators Roy Gulenchyn and Tony Liezkowski were approved at 1.36 and 1.20 per hour. Roy Perchaluk’s logging bid was accepted at 39 per thousand. Road projects were proposed under the grant system for several sections. Bonuses were approved for 1959 operators Lenard Cockerill, William Mohr, and Edward Myslchuk. John Perchaluk Jr. was paid 12 for a Dauphin trip. Grandview boundary road work was charged 75. The list of accounts, checks 5215 to 5233, was approved.

Hugh Stephen Ward aged 62 died February 12, 1960 in Rochester Minnesota after a brief illness. Born in Rolla North Dakota he lived in Deepdale and Makaroff and later moved to Los Angeles. He owned a Gilbert Minnesota business and was a Mason and Shrine member in Virginia Minnesota. He is survived by widow Frances a daughter Wanda Lee a son Archie brother Charles in Flin Flon and two sisters Agnes Taylor in Dauphin and Pearl McMaster in Roblin. Funeral was February 16 at the Methodist Church with burial in Gilbert Minnesota.
