A Centennial Minor Hockey Tournament will be held at Roblin Skating Arena under Royal Purple. Midgets and Bantams play at 7 p.m. Saturday February 2 with Tom Thumbs Pee Wees and Wee Pees to follow Sunday February 26 starting at 1 p.m.
Readers with photographs of early settlers, family groups, or other historically interesting images are asked to lend them to the Review office. The Centennial Program Committee plans to print a centennial paper showcasing pictures from days gone by.
Mrs Jack Radford announces the engagement of their youngest daughter Bernice Ethel to Steven Andrew La Buick son of Mrs Mary La Buick and the late Andrew La Buick of Neepawa Manitoba The wedding is set for Knox United Church Roblin at 3 30 p m Saturday February 25 with a wedding dance at San Clara Hall at 9 p m Friends and relatives are invited
Roblin Town Council meets January 3 1967 with Mayor F A Newton in chair approves minutes and December accounts. Walter Lupichuk named Deputy Mayor for 1967 and several committees created including Fire, Public Works, Water and Sewer, Finance chaired by J A Hill and George Kostick. Lupichuk and Kostick reappointed to Advisory Planning Commission. Lupichuk to Health Unit board. Ina Simpson named to Roblin Hospital Governing Board for 1967 1968. Building permits granted for Worbeck storage shed proposed until May 15 1967 and Mickelson Farm Equipment addition cost 4000.
The Free Methodist Church in Roblin hosted World Day of Prayer on Friday February 10 drawing about forty women from multiple denominations for a one hour service. Mrs Kratofil delivered the message on the theme And of His Kingdom there shall be no end. Organist was Mrs Betty Keast and soloist Mrs Kifyak with leading contributions from Mrs Mattock Mrs Giles Mrs Edwards Mrs R De La Mare and Mrs Altrap.
Mr and Mrs K Pound and child ren visited Brandon family over the weekend. Their children will stay with grandparents for the week. A ladies foursome takes part in the Ladies Banspiel at Roblin this week. Five or six rinks compete at San Clara with hopes of bacon. Sherril Pound is hospitalized and wished a speedy recovery.
A Tom Thumb Hockey Tournament will be held in Roblin on Sunday February 19 starting at 1 p.m. Teams from Russell Grandview Gilbert Plains and Roblin will compete in the event.
A capacity crowd attended the Parkland Centennial Festival final concert at Roblin Collegiate on Friday February 10. Liz Ritchie hosted as MC and Alma Carnochan welcomed attendees. Trophy winners were named across multiple categories including Grade 3 4 Choir and Vocal Solos, with awards presented by community leaders and local organizations. The program featured an octet formed from four duets and honored many students with diplomas to be announced next week.
Manitoba’s 1968 yearend review highlights GDP growth led by agriculture and manufacturing, with personal income near two billion and a seven percent rise in gross provincial income. A 5 percent provincial sales tax, effective June 1, 1967, aims to fund education costs, while exemptions cover food, clothing for children, farm inputs, drugs, seeds, and more. Farm trucks will use purple gas from May 1, 1967 to ease farm costs.
Roblin Minor Hockey Association hosted 110 youngsters at the Roblin Skating Arena with NHL veterans Charlie Rayner of the Rangers and Ed Mazure of the Canadiens, plus Molson representative Ken Boden. The Roblin K of C SubCouncil elected four new officers at the January 31 1987 meeting: Grand Knight Stan Safronetz Deputy Grand Knight Joseph Klemecki Recorder Mervin Yakimishyn Bursar Wilton Walters Sentry Michael Styba Chaplain Rev Michael Bzdel CSS.R Installations set for February 21 at 8 pm in Holy Redeemer Church Committee Room Centennial year projects noted A donation of 100 to St Vladimir s College and Sacred Heart Church was made The group recently broomballed the Roblin Teachers losing by one point January 29 at the college outdoor rink and won third prize February 5 at a broomball tournament in Beild they aim to challenge others in broomball.
Roblin Collegiate Institute hosted a busy festival with top honors across events. Junior girls captured the Grandview Invitational basketball trophy, while Senior boys lost in overtime to Dauphin ending their zone finals hopes. Curling at Gilbert Plains saw Boyce and Ferguson rinks advance Saturday but fall Sunday.
Harold Boughton reports farmers can discuss a building racket at the University of Manitoba Conference Week. The agricultural engineering session on March 1 covers scams, plans, and contracts, with speakers from the Better Business Bureau and university staff. Other sessions include LPG tractors and tractor dual wheels. Conference Week runs Feb 27 to March 3 and opens to all interested in technical agriculture.
