Smoke Damages Parkland Groceteria Basement Fire
Roblin Fire Department responded to a basement fire at Parkland Groceteria on Thursday around 10 30 p m. Dense smoke hampered efforts as firefighters using masks and ropes reached the basement and controlled the blaze. Damage was limited to a floor section and wiring with smoke damage to store contents. Also notes social items and a church event on Feb 10.

Notice from Minister of Education George Johnson states that as of January 1 1987 the assets and liabilities of Grain fields Shell Vale Grand Narrows Tummel Merridale Northcliffe and Postup schools transfer to Goose Lake School District No 1283. Goose Lake will pay all Tummel and Merridale accounts payable and plans to sell real property while considering districts needs for ownership transfer. Goose Lake Board and Intermountain Division discuss plans for a larger school with four additional classrooms and new lunchroom space beneath the auditorium.

The Roblin Tom Thumb hockey team stays unbeaten after a 9 2 win over Angusville at Aggusville on Friday with Cowan scoring three goals Prior two goals by Garry Prior and single goals from Keast Safronetz Perchaluk and Donaldson. They followed with an 8 0 victory at Gilbert Plains in the invitational league against Gilbert Plains led by Donaldson Prior and Doering with two apiece and Levecque and Safronetz with one each. In the final 7 2 win over Grandview Cowan added three goals while Harper Donaldson Perchaluk and Safronetz each scored once. The undefeated season continues with a Tom Thumb tournament planned for early March inviting all to attend.

Public Meeting on Bill 16 Proposes Single District School Division
A Feb 6 public meeting in Roblin Collegiate Auditorium reviewed the March 10 referendum on Bill 16. Assistant Deputy Minister of Education R W Lightly warned of shortages in doctors nurses teachers and graduates and urged expanding vocational education. The plan would create one school board per division with uniform programs central financing and grants. Voters will decide if the division absorbs current boards on March 10, 1964, with new trustees taking office April 1.

Mustangs Lose Out In M A H A Playdowns
The Bantam hockey team Roblin Mustangs fell short in the Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association playdowns against Grandview. Grandview forwards Larry Stotski Blaine Stoughton and Bill Murray Jr. scored 15 of 18 goals across two games. In Grandview, Roblin led 2-0 but relinquished the lead and lost 8-5 as Gilbert Donaldson starred in goal.
