New Aerial and Underground Phone Facilities For Roblin

Work progresses on installing new telephone wire and cable in Roblin to meet future demand and remove 155 poles. About eight miles of aerial cable and over a mile of underground cable will be laid on a joint-use basis with Manitoba Hydro, with completion expected by March. Roblin will switch from manual to automatic dialing in about two years.

Town By-laws Convict Garry Rollings and George Contors

Shortdale residents Garry Rollings and George Contors were fined under a town by law with amounts $14.00 and $21.50 respectively. One Liquor Control Act case and one Juvenile case will be heard later. The town constable warns dog owners who failed to buy 1965 licences or keep dogs on their premises. February 1, 1965 was the license deadline. only ten licences sold to date.

Shell River Council Accepts Tenders At Feb. Meeting

The Shell River Municipal Council met on February 3 with Reeve F H Wilson presiding. Minutes from prior meetings were adopted and accounts totaling 20 700 25 were approved. Tenders accepted include Walter Sorochuk stonepicker at 1.00 per hour Roblin Consumers Co op for fuel oils and greases Pete Peteleski haul gravel and fill. By law 2029 A transfer of Lot 3 Block 3 Plan 22 approved. CN Railways station buildings at Makaroff protocol concurred. Meeting adjourned. Next meeting March 3 at 1 30 p m.

Bowley rink wins top honors at Inglis bonspiel

A Roblin rink led by Dee Bowley captured top honors in the Inglis Ladies Bonspiel held Saturday February 5. The foursome Iris Shepherd Wilma Johnstonstone and Kathy Cockerill faced a Russell rink skipped by Alice Schwalm in the final, nearly scoring an eight ender before Schwalm’s last rock left Bowley with a seven ender. The Inglis ladies were praised for the competitive play and the continuous buffet during the day.

The Roblin Knights of Columbus held a farewell party for Past Grand Knight Omar Ouellette at St Vladimir’s College Auditorium on February 1.
