Germination tests urged for seed and tree planting plan
Ag reports stress testing grain germination from reliable sources after heavy frost damage in western Canada. Farmers are urged to order quality seed now as stock limits appear, with 19 000 trees to be planted on 24 farms and limited evergreen supplies. A tree planter will assist northern Manitoba farms next spring with co operation required.

Memorial Service Honors Sir Winston Churchill
A memorial service in honor of Sir Winston Churchill was held at Roblin Memorial Hall on Friday January 29 at seven o'clock. The event, led by the Royal Canadian Legion Roblin Branch No 24, featured Invocation by Father Olynyk scripture by A T Kines and prayers by Rev House. Rev Roy Caswell delivered an address followed by prayers from Rev P Borchardt. benediction by Rev Dixon. Ladies Auxiliary and Legion members laid poppies. The Roblin Community Youth Band attended.

Roblin Horticultural Society Plans an Engaging Year
The Roblin Horticultural Society held its January meeting with Peter Nowosad presiding. Delegates to the Provincial Horticultural Convention in Winnipeg were chosen, and plans include a Peony Show a July Picnic and a Fall Pot Luck Supper. New members receive five Gladioli bulbs, and the group joined the North American Gladioli Society offering pamphlets to members.

St. Vlad's Juvenile Hockey Team Seeks Championship
St. Vlad's all college team competes in the North Central Juvenile Hockey League. Through five games they have one win two draws and two losses, placing fourth. Results include 2-2 with Inglis 17-4 loss to Swan River and 9-4 win over Gilbert Plains.

World Day of Prayer Planned in Roblin United Church
The Roblin United Church Women held their General Meeting on January 26 in the church parlor. They scheduled the Women's World Day of Prayer for March 6 and formed a committee for arrangements. A smorgasbord is planned for spring and Easter Thank Offering will be at the March meeting. Mr. G Kelso presented films from a Maritimes trip after the meeting.
