Barley experts from Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta awarded W J Bradley Portage la Prairie Man the 31000 cash prize in the 1919 contest for the best sample of maritime barley. The national championship for 1916 was won by Edward Bradley and his two year old son. The national contest began in 1946 and is sponsored by the brewing and malting industry.
