The Hospital Auxiliary met in the Esard Room on December 2 with 11 members present. Mrs. Tyee Elder presided and plans included entering the Santa Claus parade committee and decorating the float.
The Chamber of Commerce dinner and annual meeting gathered over 100 people at Sacred Heart Auditorium on Monday December 1. Guest speaker Fred G. McGuinness of Brandon Sun urged community involvement as rent for space, citing Forrest Manitoba residents who built a curling and skating rink.
The Deepdale Clovers Garden Club met at Diane W Kozak’s home on November 28. Funds from Achievement Day were distributed. Members chose gift exchange names and noted December 27 as the start date. A Bake Sale and Raffle at the Co op on December 6 funded the party, raising 46 dollars 25 cents. Lunch followed with hot dogs and cake. Anton Shafranski won the turkey and W A Barker won the cake.
The Department of Agriculture and Industry Branch report ongoing help from RCMP in locating lost or stolen cattle and a yearly brand registry fee of five dollars for three years. A beef industry bulletin notes pasture season trends and feed analysis services for stockmen, with sample pricing and sampling instructions available at the office.
The semi annual circuit assembly drew twelve congregations from Northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan to Thompson. About 333 attended Sunday as Toronto district supervisor Mr. Soughione spoke on true worship versus false forms, stressing the Creator's standard over human opinion and urging steps to uphold true worship for everlasting life.
The couple marked a quarter century of marriage with a social evening in Beltfield attended by family including Lennard’s mother Mrs. Nellie Oliva and daughters Lynette Joane Colleen Andrea Rhonda Liza and son-in-law Garth Chase. Master of Ceremonies Mr George Poucher led tributes and a 12 piece Cherish China setting was presented.
The Roblin Chamber promotes a promotional draw offering a 1000 pound steer and urges business buyers to obtain entry tickets at the Post Office or Ag Offices. Plans progress for Casal Festival events, Pinocchio show for children, and a motor toboggan ride for preschoolers. Next week features a 20th parade with 228 floats expected, the Roblin Band and drummers, and Santa distributing treats.
Roblin town representatives join R M of Shell River and Roblin and District Chamber of Commerce at Insis to discuss an alternate lake name. After weighing ten options the group unanimously backs Lake Shellborne derived from the Shell and Assiniboine rivers, with Rossburn abstaining. The name will be submitted to Provincial Authorities.
Guidance counselors from Manitoba and North Dakota gathered at Tuxedo Shaftesbury High School in Winnipeg for a two day conference titled Approaches to Counselling. Dr Kenneth Sloyt urged tailoring approaches to individual needs and warned against middle class biases. Dr Donald Blocher emphasized collaboration with teachers and the community to foster growth. Dr John Krumholtz urged targeted behavior change strategies. Luncheon speakers included Ed Niowalchuk and Dr Harold May. A panel discussed guidance practices with Dr Banmen and others.
In Roblin arena last Friday St Vlad's routed the North Stars 10 to 2. Scorers for St Vlad's include Gary Buick with 3 goals and Gary Marchuk with 3 goals and 1 assist, while Roy Yaworski and Bill Pitt each scored for the North Stars. The piece also notes upcoming games and praises local youth leaders and coaches.
Mr and Mrs John Beattie of Makaroff announce the engagement of their daughter Beryl Markle to Ross Poulsen son of Mr and Mrs Louis Poulsen of Carman Manitoba. The wedding is planned for December 27 in Thompson Manitoba.
At a November 24 meeting the Roblin School Band Committee urged hiring a division wide music director to oversee band string choir and other music in the three centers. The board weighs salary funded by a half mill tax and asks for public input on establishing a program to reach more students.
Inspectors visited first and second year rooms on December 2 8 and 4. Third year pupils baked cookies to sell for an excursion to the Regina Museum. The Health Unit with the Sanitorium Board tested all kindergarten pupils for tuberculosis with parental consent. all 38 tested negative. All 16 staff are taking a Manitoba Teachers Society course on Learning Theories at Roblin with Dr P Valamandaris. 36 teachers in the Intermountain School Division are enrolled.
The Ladies Auxiliary of Canadian Legion Branch 24 held a November 18 meeting. Mrs. Adam chaired the election where I Ward was named president and other officers were chosen. Welfare reported many charitable efforts and the year closed with a December 9 Christmas dinner.
Mr and Mrs Wm Pound celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Tuesday December 2 at home with relatives and neighbors calling to wish them well and enjoy tea and a social with the couple.
Funeral services were held December 8 1969 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Italy Pentecost Petlura Manitoba for Mike Komaran sky 58. Rev Nicholas Rauliuk officiated Roblin Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers included Matt Komaransky Larry Leschyshyn Lawrenene Komaransky Steve Hu ta Frank Sheminsky Bill Nowosad. Mike Komaransky born 1911 in Ohio Manitoba Oakburn district married Nellie Ischuk in 1937 then farmed in Petlura. From 1966 to 1968 he worked for a steel machine company in Minnedosa. In 1968 he moved to Roblin and worked at Gabers and Sons. Survived by wife Nellie two brothers Harry Petlura and Daniel Fort Williams Ontario two sisters Tekla Kuzyk Grandview and Justina Mazursky Dauphin Manitoba and sons Steve Burnaby BC and David Roblin with his mother.
Mrs C Collis funeral attendance by Fred Taylor and son Chris of Westbank B C alongside visits to the McKenzie home. Walter Livingstone and children of Roblin visited Mr and Mrs McKenzie. Beverley Ayer Brandon visited her parents. Danny Gardner Tyner Sask visited Mr and Mrs Powell. Mrs Helen McKenzie returned home from Roblin Hospital after a major operation.
The National Farmers Union met at Zelena Hall on Friday December 5 at 8 p.m. with about 75 attendees to re organize the M F U into the NF U. Speaker Phil Schwartz discussed collective bargaining with NFU and the potential economy benefits for farmers. He noted savings by direct factory dealings and gave price comparisons between Canada and Germany. Another speaker, I Boss from Dauphin, outlined district subdivisions and future executive duties to recruit members. Wally McKenzie voiced concern over grain quotas and price drops impacting the local economy.
