Hobrn Women’s Institute held its annual meeting at Mrs A I Kinesast week. Members repeated the Woman Creed during roll call and tea followed. Directors elected: President Mrs C K G Barber, Vice President Mrs W E Carr, Second VP Mrs F H Briton, Secretary Mrs T Yeo, Treasurer Mrs F Lawrence, Programme Convenor Mrs Carr, Social Service Convenor Mrs Jakeman. Donations to Roblin Empty Stocking Fund: card party receipts and 4 prize donations. total gifts $23.00.
Roblin hosts a veterans dance at Keep this Gate open on December 81st. Mrs Henry Gamey remains in Winnipeg General Hospital for treatment. At the International Live Show and Seed Grain Fair in Chicago, L J Mitchel of Roblin placed fifth in the Durum wheat awards. An Education Department bureau will distribute textbooks and supplies to public schools starting next year.
Mr H J M Parker visited Winnipeg on business last week. A dante was held at Alva school Friday evening. Arthur Taylor and the chain led United Church service Sunday. Ice in good shape at the rink with skating starting Monday and curling to begin this week. CKY dance program attended by young people from twenty at Mr Dun’s Tuesday evening. About 50 attended the Monday evening young people meeting. The W A Anglican card party at Mrs Wan Apple’s home Tuesday was enjoyable. A curling meeting at the fire hall elected skips and rinks for the season including Arthur Taylor and others.
Ivan VanSickle left for Dauphin for medical treatment and Mrs C Buness remains in Dauphin hospital. Farmers attended a dairy meeting in Dauphin last week. The Bield Community Club met at Mrs H Jaasund’s home. Youths attended the hard tine masquerade at Gilbert School. Judges aided by Ed Johnstone selected Mr and Mrs Jones and G Cooper of Shortdale and Stamey Bialkowski of Bield.
Shortdale Vhe dance at Gilbert school last week was reported a success. Misse Rosie Jusuissym a former Shortdale resident was marred in Gilbert Plains last week. There was not a large crowd at the concert in the North Hall last week, but a good programme was reported. Mr Lloyd Cooper and Mr Stewart Downey were visitors at home over the week-end.
Government action to ease Saskatchewan tax sales includes delaying certificates of tax purchasers until after February 1931 to allow Legislature to meet. An extension for land tile transfer from 1930 tax sales is planned. Interest on arrears cut to four percent for six months plus four percent for the next six months. Penalty on lands sold for taxes reduced from ten to eight percent.
Apple storage guidance from Experimenttl Farms notes selecting early maturing Wealthy and Gravenstein for shorter storage while McIntosh Northern Spy Russet and Baldwin hold longer. Discard bruised fruit, wrap in oiled or ordinary tissue, store in bushel boxes in a dirt floor cellar at 40 F to just above freezing. If only cement cellar exists, cover with damp sawdust to provide humidity and maintain 40 to 50 F for satisfactory storage.
Under the Municipal Act the Sale of lands for arrears of taxes is ordered by warrant dated November 26, 1930. The Reeve directs public auction on January 15, 1941 at Roblin Municipal office at 2 pm for several parcels in Walker School District 80-29-28 44.82 60 45.82 and other lots, all patented, with costs.
