Branch Of Besl Organized At Roblin

A reorganization meeting of the B E S L was held at the Orange Hall in Roblin on Tuesday November 25. About thirty returned men attended from Makaroff and Shortdale with Dr K E McLaughlin as chairman. He spoke on the Legion’s work and pensions resulting from the Legislative gains. Dr McLaughlin was elected president with J Adam as vice president and T A Cameron as secretary. Twenty five members joined the branch and lunch followed as Comrade Cairns left for the 11 15 train. The meeting was described as the most enthusiastic in years.

Judge O Reily of Cornwall Ontario ruled against a delinquent subscriber stressing publishers need timely payments. He said stop subscriptions only by settling arrears and obtaining a receipt or by refusing delivery at the post office with a record. Publishers do not want to force papers on unwilling readers.

Mr and Mrs Charles V Franklin and family with Mrs Jas Carter visited Dauphin and returned Monday. Samuel B Hern won the councilor seat in Division 1 Cote Municipality by a comfortable majority. W G Blewett of Kamsack spoke at United Church service recounting the London Ontario conference. Anglican W A sold many items at the Davis Hall bazaar on Nov 28. Rev H McConnell returned home after attending the London United Church conference and Mayo hospital stay. Best wishes extended for his continued recovery.

Deepdale Community Gatherings Boost Local Spirits

A cheerful Deepdale crowd enjoyed music and song during an evening visit to E J Kennedy. A Saturday 8 pm meeting plans delegates' report from a Winnipeg convention, while a recent Friday gathering at Community Hall featured wax drums violin and other tunes, ending late as worries faded.

A Roblin bridge party fundraiser is planned for Friday evening November 28 at 6 80 p m in the 0 0 F hall to support the Empty Stocking Fund under the Roblin Womens Institute. The death of George Harvey, aged 69, a Mak area resident for 20 years, occurred after collapsing at Grundy store yesterday. He had been in fair health until the time of death.
