Village Council To Tender For Waterworks Extension

The Roblin village council met on Friday August 12 1960 with Major Fo Ao Newton chairing. Minutes of July 12 and July 6 were adopted. various general and unpaid accounts approved for payment. several building permits granted. council rejected Benjamin Bros Construction offer for Waterworks extension and instructed Hadd in Davis and Brown to prepare tenders seeking lowest bid or any tender.

Shell River Council met on Wednesday August 3 1960 under Reeve F H Wilson with full attendance. Minutes from July approved. Accounts Nos 3383 to 3432 totaling 15528.91 authorised for payment. Grave plots at Roblin District Cemetery set to 20.00. A tax sale date December 7 1960 at 2 pm to be read and approved thrice. Manitoba Hospital Service payment for Period 4 approved. Laborat ory X Ray Unit agreement dated October 1 1960 to be signed. Next meeting September 7 at 2 pm. Interviews with P O Hanson Roblin Cemetery, C Miller Metcalf construction charge, and correspondence on civil defence and rubbish notices.

Roblin High School To Open Eight Classrooms

The Intermountain School Board plans the new term with at least eight classrooms at Roblin High School to handle heavy Grade Nine enrolment. Contractors rush auditorium and Home Economics rooms with completion hoped by September 1. Staff includes Principal P Prefontaine and several teachers. term starts at 9 am on Thursday September 1.

Hillsburg Council Sets By Laws and Farm Yields Aug 3 1960

Hillsburg Municipal Council in session August 3 1960 with Reeve John Perchaluk presiding. By Law Nos. 348 349 and 350 approved for health unit agreements laboratory unit and land transfer to William Reed after interests cleared. Council approves Prairie Farm Assistance yield requests and accounts for payment including cheques 15399 to 5420.

The Lutheran Ladies Aid of St Matthew Church met in the church basement with ten members. Mrs F Zorn hosted. Rev P Borchardt led lesson five. President C Andres presided. minutes read by W Bach. Reports on sick visiting and bake sale given. An evening lunch for P T R on August 5 was planned with Edel chair. Next meeting at Mrs H Zorn’s home.

Virginia Jean Chick of Roblin Manitoba became Mrs. Thomas Allen Rosgen on July 6 at St. Anthony's Church Drumheller Alberta in a double ring ceremony. The bride wore a white nylon chiffon gown with sequin trim. The couple plans to reside in Munson Alberta after a Canadian Rockies honeymoon.

Roblin-Russell 4 H Rally at Roblin Fair Praises Club Spirit

About 250 4 H club members and leaders crowded Roblin Fair on July 29 for judging contests in clothing agriculture and livestock plus a tractor competition. The day featured a parade, dress review with queen and princesses, gold watch awards, the Russell Banner Trophy, a club jamboree, and praise for organizers and helpers led by W T Uhryniuk Harold Boughton Louise Batho and Harry Oliphant.

Ladies Auxiliary Meeting Held by Canadian Legion

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion met on Tuesday August 9 with ten members present. Reports from various committees were given and get well cards and gifts were sent last month. A luncheon was served by hostesses. The September 13 meeting will feature lunch hosted by Mrs Mac McFadyen Mrs Eileen McFadyen Mrs Cliff McArthur and Mrs Laurie.

Horticultural Meeting Sets Stage for August Show

The Roblin Horticultural Society met at the Shell River Municipal office on Thursday July 7 with strong attendance. Final plans were made for the August 27 show including a new Special Prize for a Vegetable Collection. Mrs Blanche Brown of Dauphin will speak and demonstrate floral arrangement from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Lloyd Stinson Key Speaker at Dauphin CCF Meeting

The Dauphin based gathering of the CCF Association of the Federal Constituency of Dauphin met at the King's Hotel Banquet Room with representatives from Roblin Grand View Ochre River Ethelbert Dauphin and others. Lloyd Stinson provincial CCF leader spoke introducing New Party proposals and a democratic constitution. A resolution supported forming a New Party with equal representation from all occupational groups. Fred Zaplitny was named delegate to the CCF National Convention in Regina August 9 10 11. The Federal Constituency Board was reorganized naming officers and members from multiple towns.

Goose Lake Elementary enrolment grows as term nears opening

In late June Goose Lake Elementary counted 429 students with 48 entering Grade Nine and 51 beginners enrolled, bringing anticipated total to 434 on opening day. Classes planned across Elementary, Masonic Hall, Collegiate Building, and multiple Grade 6 to 8 sections starting September 1. Various accounts approved for July and August payments to local vendors and officials.
