Wild Meeting Draws Thirty At April Session

An evening gathering on April 26 attracted about thirty attendees for a church meeting led by Mrs Nora Lecce and Mrs Marg Oliphant. The program featured scripture readings, hymns, and a talk on Christian leadership with a film presentation. A bake sale, card ministry, and various committee reports were shared, and refreshments followed lunch served by several members.

Frightful Weather Delays Harvest and Seeding Plans

Frightful weather brings over two inches of snow in Frightful Weather Robiis on Monday night April 25 and ongoing Tuesday morning. Snow halts harvesting on several local farms for another week, forcing delays to late spring seeding after last year’s crops. Last year’s seeding began April 10 in the area.

Village Council Rejects School Building Permit

A special Roblin Village Council meeting on April 21 1960 chaired by Mayor F A Newton unanimously rejected Intermountain School Division No 36 Roblin School building permit. Grounds include proximity to the Lagoon health odor risks and potential future costs if the Lagoon is moved, with a written guarantee sought for any department costs or injuries arising from building near the Lagoon.

District News Notes From Archerville Weekend Gatherings

Mrs. Pete Bancarz reports weekend travel to Archerville Saskatchewan to her mother's place. A surprise birthday party for Mr. Bert Dixon was held at Mrs. Stan Irvine's Tuesday. Elizabeth Bancarz visited Gladys Proskle in Postup Easter holidays. Mrvahd and Mrs. Nick Ratushny of Roblin visited Bancarz home. Cliff Klassen family also called on Bancarz.

Easter Visitors Bring News From Grand Narrows District

Easter holiday visitors include Mr and Mrs W Radford and Mr and Mrs Canton Parker with Terrylyn from Flin Flon, Miss Grace Murray Snow Lake, Mr J McConnell Brandon, Mr M Carpun Winnipegosis, Mr H Latmer Erickson, Mr Theo James Toto, and Mr and Mrs W Murray Assiboina. Local congratulations go to Paul Laliberte and family, 1959 Roblin chamber Agricultural Award winners. Grace Burrell shopped Winnipeg and competed semi finals for a Toronto trip on the 4H team but will not go this year. Ken Wilson attended MTA Leadership School at Brandon. Pete Weim Finn Flon visited Ed Len Gerbeck’s over the holiday.

Lutheran Ladies Aid Meeting Held April 7th

The Ladies Aid of St Matth we Church met April 7 at Mrs Robert Orke home with 13 members and 5 visitors. Rev Bor chardt led devotion, President Andres led business, minutes from March adopted, treasurer Edel read and approved. A wedding supper planned for April 30, birthday collection of 10.50, next meeting at Mrs J Orke’s. Lost wallet noted with reward offered.

Evangeline Rebekah Lodge 41 Buddies 47th Birthday

Evangeline Rebekah Lodge No 41 celebrated its 47th birthday on April 14 with Past Noble Grands taking chairs and six sisters from Dauphin Lodge visiting. A lunch followed. On April 19 President Mrs Ella Barager of Winnipeg honored the lodge with an official visit at Masonic Hall, a tableau titled Friendship Hour, a gift from officers and members, lunch, and social hour.

Co op Lumber Building Gutted By Fire

At noon on Monday April 25 the Roblin Fire Department battled a blaze in the Co op Lumber Yard building. Fire confined to the front half and stopped from spreading to nearby structures. Stock at back and front ends, some exposed, had not yet opened for business. Estimated damage $15 000. Building and contents insured.

Manitoba Welcomes Vice Regal Couple With Pageantry

The vice regal couple Governor General Georges Vanicor and Madame Vanier were welcomed to Manitoba amid color and ceremony as a 100 man RCAF honor guard greeted their first official Western Canada tour. Premier Duff Robiin spoke in bilingual fashion, praising Manitoba’s linguistic heritage and cultural life, while the Governor General called Manitoba a microcosm of Canada and urged broader bilingualism. The four day visit began with arrival by train and a reception by Lt. Governor Willis and Mrs. Willis.

Roblin Women’s Institute District Convention Slated

The Roblin Women’s Institute met in the United Church basement on April 21 at 8 o’clock. Delegates named for the May 18 district convention include Mrs. C Andres and Mrs. Geo Kelso, with Mrs. J Collins as provincial delegate and Mrs. T Sanders as alternate. Mrs. G Mitchell spoke on Minister George Huston and Mrs. T Taylor outlined ACWW and WLC work to be followed up. Shirley Chase sang two songs and Mrs. Kines accompanied. A Manitoba Horticultural Society report by Mrs. Dillin was repeated for Roblin gardeners. Mrs. M Yakimishyn demonstrated wood fibre flowers. The meeting closed with lunch.

Five car tour of Roblin Ag Rep farmers visits multiple farms

Five car loads of farmers toured D Jubenvill's Gilbert Plains dairy operation with a 12 to 14 thousand pound milk yield and cooling and bottling gear, Norman Bates' feeder cattle and swine units, and a Dauphin Louis Nicholson dairy barn. They viewed Ste. Rose's Lockhart hay handling system and Laurent Magnet's Angus herd before adding Glen Powell's Purebred Shorthorn herd at Grandview. The day highlighted efficient self feeding, corrals, and livestock management practices.

Ladies' Aid Meeting at Roblin United Church Home

The Roblin United Church Ladies' Aid met at Mrs. Jory's with eleven members and three visitors. They opened with a W.A. Mot to and devotional, approved March minutes, discussed adopting a Hong Kong child for one year, allocated 25 for Youth Camp Welman Lake, and named a new group Fellowship of Women of the Church. Mrs Jory and committee served lunch.

Ladies' Auxiliary Meeting Held Tuesday April 12th

The regular meeting of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion was chaired by Mrs. Currey in Mrs. Hutchison's absence. Twenty two members attended with reports given and business discussed. Initiation of new members occurred and hospital work for the Red Cross was organized. A dainty lunch closed the evening. Next meeting slated for May 10.

Hillsburg Council Minutes Adopt Road Gravelling and Exemptions

Hillsburg Rural Municipality council held its April 6 1960 meeting with Reeve John Per Gaaluk presiding. They accepted S W Cockerill's gravel bid at 80c per yard up to five miles and 10c thereafter, to begin within ten days, passed By Law No 341 to exempt several community halls from taxes, approved $50 Roblin Rest Room grant for 1960, and authorized payment of accounts Nos 3273 through 5503.
