Hospital Aid Meeting Notes From April Session

Hospital Aid meeting held April 1 at 2 30 p m with President Mrs G Mit ting and 16 members present. March meeting minutes approved. Ways and Means reported Carnival proceeds 310 79 with thanks to Bevin and helpers. Auxiliary plans May 12 meeting and May 28 drive with Mrs A Miller and Mrs Bowiey in charge. Hospital Board meeting noted with DeLaMare delivering remarks.

Easter Thank Offering Meeting at Knox United Church

The Easter Thank Offering service at Knox United Church on April 12 featured Miss Ruth Caurchul of The Church G. a. Nations speaking on the Easter Story. Mrs H Cross led the worship with Mrs K Nes at the piano while the Senior Explorer Girls sang. The gathering closed with hymns and benediction, details of slides shown by Miss Churchill Wain and talk on training for a leadership role.

Makaroff W I Meeting Held At Mrs Beck Home

The April Makaroff W I meeting at Mrs T Beck's home had seven members and four visitors. Reported craft display plans for the District Convention and World Refugee Year material. Treasurer's report approved. correspondence from World Council of Churches and Bible Institute noted. Delegates for District events to be decided at May meeting. Winners announced for institute prizes and cancer boxes raised 13.55 with thanks to contributors.

Mr and Mrs Laliberte Agricultural Award Winners

The Robin and District Chamber of Commerce names Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laliberte of Sunnyslope District as the 1959 Agricultural Award recipients after a five-member committee rated the field. The couple, long active in community life, built a diversified farm and educated their children Garland Marlene and Rena. A community dinner and program at the United Church basement on April 25 features Dr. Frank Skinner and Prof. John Menzies with a Prairies Homes and Gardens film. Advance tickets are available from Mrs. Hutchison.

Three 4-H Members Attend Winnipeg Youth Leadership Conference

About 110 4 H youths attend the 4 H Youth Leadership Conference at the University of Manitoba from April 18 to 22 marking the first spring event. Delegates from our area include Barbara Britcher of the Bield Sewing Club Grace Burrell of the Makaroff Garden Club and Garry Digby of the Assiniboine Calf Club. They face strong national competition in the H Week contest with more than a hundred rivals.

Mrs. C McKenzie notes Mrs Fred Ward returned home from a month in California and Philp Beerman is back from Deer Lodge Hospital. Mr Ray Nostrom family visited the McKenzie home while 8 T Argent left for Chilliwack after weeks with Water Ward. Judy and Donna Ward spend Easter in Flin Flon. Continued on page 6.

Baldy Mountain TV Station Nears May On Air Date

The Baldy Mountain site in the Duck Mountain Reserve hosts a major TV transmitter project for channel 8 serving Dauphin Swan River and Roblin Manitoba. A 500 foot tower 24 by 32 steel transmitter building two diesel plants and a Canada General Electric transmitter are in place with testing underway and on air hoped by May 31 1960.

Eighth Annual meeting of Dauphin Presbytery W A

The 8th Annual Meeting of the Dauphin Presbytery W A was held at First United Church in Dauphin on Friday April 8. Sixty seven members registered with Swan Valley contributing twenty four and Dauphin twenty. Reports showed 24 local W A members totaling 884 with funds over 6000 raised for churches manses and missions. Leadership outlined missionary study and unity themes.

Lutheran Women Meet for April 13 Mission Group

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League met at Mrs. Andrew Miller’s home on Wednesday night April 13 with nine members and three visitors attending. The group opened with a hymn and prayer, studied the second chapter of Fundamental Christian Beliefs, and heard reports on minutes and the district constitution. Mrs. Albert Orke presided over the business session as the hostess served lunch after the benediction.

Usick urges deficiency payments at Manitoba farmers meeting

Over 125 farm people heard Manitoba Farmers’ Union president Rudy Usick at Robain Memorial Hall on April 14. He argued that overheating production lowers prices, criticized government inaction on deficiency payments, and noted that many farmers would fare better under deficiency plans than an acreage subsidy. The audience backed a motion to press for deficiency payments on wheat, oats, and barley.
