Community Awards Banquet in Roblin Apr 25 highlighted by awards

The Roblin and District Chamber of Commerce hosted a Community Awards Banquet at the Roblin United Church with Rev. G E Waddell as host. Dr F L Skinner received a Life Membership for outstanding plant breeding and community service. The Laliberte family and the Murray family were honored as Agricultural Award winners 1959 and 1958 respectively. Professor J Menzies of the University of Manitoba spoke on landscaping and beautification of farm and home grounds.

Youth Leadership Week Held At Brandon

Three young people from Roblin and surrounding districts attended Manitoba Federation of Agriculture Youth Leadership Week in Brandon from April 18 to 23. Ada Cockerill Roblin Ken Wilson Togo Wayne Coutts Roblin. Instruction covered sociology psychology ideas communication and public speaking with university and college staff guiding sessions. The group learned panel discussion banquet organized games and enjoyed ballroom and square dancing during the week. Manitoba Bears Gain Government Protection

Manitoba’s bear population is now protected by an order in council issued Friday. Bears cannot be hunted or taken except in three predator control areas Swan River Piney and Fairford where bears may be taken only to obtain the bounty. The regulation also stops bear cub trafficking export permits for live cubs are halted. The government may later consider a controlled hunting season while protecting cubs.

Roblin Village Council Stands on New School Site

The Roblin village council recounts its efforts since February to influence the Intermountain and Local School Boards on the new school site. After meetings and a health concern about lagoon proximity, the council offered the Ball Park site for 1.00 but the boards kept their chosen location, recording the village’s opposition and confirming board authority.
