Town Council Approves April Water Rates and Fees

The Town of Roblin council approves water and sewer rate proposals by Reid Crowthers and Partners Limited. Extensions planned for water and sewer lines with engineers authorized to draw plans. Frontage charge on Lot 1 Plan 1799 reduced. Grants total across several local organizations. Licences issued and a dwelling remodel permit approved.

Fire at Roblin Home Damages Basement and Wiring

Roblin Fire Department was summoned to a home on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. The flames were in the basement and were brought under control quickly. Damage included a charred beam sub-floor and electrical wiring with smoke damage through the house. cause not determined.

Roblin Women Plan District Convention May Meeting

At the Roblin Women's Institute regular session final plans were announced for the District Convention to be held in the Community Hall in mid May. Guest speaker will be M J G McMullen, former head of the Manitoba Travel and Convention Association. Local delegates include Mrs Dave Bowley and Mrs C E Mitchell.

Parkland Regional Development Inc formed to help towns and villages shape their own future through economic development. The group argues traditional services no longer sustain growth as farm sizes rise and youth leave. Next month details are to be released.

Walter Fowler Elected President of Roblin Golf Club

The Roblin Golf and Country Club held its annual meeting on April 19 with a small turnout. Walter Fowler was elected president, alongside an officer slate including Ralph Ritchie as Past President and Mike Kapetz as Vice President. Centennial Sports Complex eyed for Roblin area meeting

The Centennial Organization Committee met in the Roblin area to discuss a Recreation Complex with swimming pool skating rink curling lanes and a restaurant. 57 people from 18 groups including the RM of Shell River and Roblin were present and a steering committee was formed to seek plans cost and financing.

Roblin Elks Host District Meeting April 14

The Roblin Elks Lodge hosted a district meeting April 14 with Lodges from Dauphin Russell and Winnipegosis. Mayor Giles welcomed attendees and Terry Paley represented the Bro. Elks. The day included initiation of a candidate, a turkey banquet by the U C W, a piano duet and vocal solos, and notes on Easter Seal profits and Centennial planning.

Roblin Minor Baseball Registers Players for 1969 Season

On Monday April 21 at 7 30 p m the Roblin Minor Baseball registration closed with about 90 applications. Willy Nash demonstrated techniques at the Intermediate School as plans for a April 24 meeting at 8 p m were announced. Ten coaches have signed on and organizers call for six more, plus sponsors, at the meeting to begin the season.

Fire threatens Payne home near Roblin

Firefighters respond to a blaze four miles northwest of Roblin near the Payne farm yard. The poplar stand and surrounding stubble were damaged but no buildings caught fire after a neighbor’s burning garbage sparked the blaze.

Obituary: Rev Elia Shwetz Dies at Oakburn at 73

Rev Elia Shwetz 73 died suddenly at his Oakburn Manitoba home on Easter Sunday after hosting a midnight service. Born July 31 1895 in Galicia Ukraine he served Ukrainian Greek Orthodox parishes across Manitoba Saskatchewan Alberta Ontario and Winnipeg. Surviving are wife Irene and children Michael Leona Diana and six grandchildren. Funeral rites held at Oakburn Church with interment at Glen Eden Winnipeg.

Fire destroys storage shed on Walter Titanich farm

Fire at Walter Titanich's farm 2 miles west and south and 4% mile west on Sunday April 20 at 1 30 p m destroyed a storage building and its contents. Wind fanned sparks east of the shed starting a bush fire. insurance on the building was small and contents uninsured. Cause undetermined as the structure had no wiring or heating facilities.
