First Time West Trophy Presented at Bonspiel

Major Bowers presented the Armed Forces Transportation Bonspiel Trophy to Col. W A Hockney at the C F B Borden event on February 7 8. The Winnipeg rink skipped by Sgt Bill Vaughn including Capt George Barr Cpl Vern Flewelling and W O S Hurt won the event with 53 rinks competing. This trophy’s westward move marks a first away from Borden Ontario.

Chamber Meeting Sees Local and Regional Speakers

The Chamber of Commerce will host its regular meeting at 8 p.m. on April 22 in the Masonic Basement with guest Norman S. Bergman from the Regional Development Branch of the Department of Industry and Commerce. Two guests from the Rossburn Cheese Plant will also speak and answer questions. The event aims to attract farmers interested in milk production.

Six Parkland towns start fact gathering for investors

Six Parkland communities announced they will begin data collection to attract investors. Chambers of Commerce in Grandview Rossburn Swan River Roblin Winnipegosis and Dauphin will compile local data for a brochure to aid business inquiries. The program should wrap up within the year.

Eight 4 H'ers Join Youth Leadership Course in Dauphin

Eight 4 H youth from Grand Narrows Assiniboine Sonnettes Tummel Bees and Merridale Beef clubs took part in a three day Youth Leadership Course in Dauphin April 8 to 10 ending with a parent open banquet. The course aimed to build skills in public speaking leadership budgeting and communication to turn ideas into action. The Deepdale 4H Garden Club reorganized under Mrs S Kozak and Garth McKenzie. Call for children 10 years old to join before seeds orders due April 15. Seed grain listings and price quotations available at the office.

Easter visit notes and curling trophy at Winnipeg event

Ela Neel and others spent Easter weekend with relatives across Swan River Brandon and Dunrea Manitoba. Four Roblin youths won the second event trophy at the M L T Bonspiel in Winnipeg with teammates Terry Watson John Lovas Gerald Liske and Veryl Elder. Manitoba Clocks Spring Ahead Under New Time Act

Manitoba residents should set clocks forward one hour during the night of Saturday to Sunday April 26th and 27th. The Official Time Act of 1967 establishes uniform daylight saving time province wide from the last Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October, with the change at 2 am advancing to 3 am.

Father Dansereau Honored For 40 Years Of Service

In celebration of forty years in service to his church and parishioners Father H Dansereau led a Monday Mass at 4 o clock with testifying attendance praising his rapport with the community. Priests Rev Father Saviniuk Roblin St Vlads College Crashich Myrna and Brother Gabriele also from St Vlads plus Rev Father Lassenga Swan River and Father Cephassis assisted. The Ladies Catholic League of San Clara hosted a banquet at the Legion Hall after mass with trustees Ephrem Carriere Ray Laliberte Joseph La plante Joseph Branconnier Justin LaRocque and others from Roblin College and St Vlads attending.

Population Employment Resources Study Set For Parkland Region

Parkland Regional Development Corporation launches a summer survey of population and employment resources in collaboration with Canada Manpower. Five Dauphin area high school students will collect data in Dauphin and nearby towns, with federal analysts and computers shaping the final report.

Minor Baseball Plans And Registration Set For This Year

At a Monday meeting plans were drawn up for 8 to 14 year old baseball registrations. Boys should obtain forms from Intermediate School Principal Mr Terry Paley and parents must register at the old Intermediate School next Monday night at 7 30. A $2.00 fee per boy covers insurance. The drive seeks coaches and calls for community support of Little Leagues to build competency and welfare of children.

Roblin Marine and Sports Centre Opens at Former Marshall Wells

Partners Roy Yaworski and Wayne Kozmeniuk launch Roblin Marine and Sports Centre in the former Marshall Wells store. The Centre carries fishing tackle golf gear hunting supplies and baseball equipment with Ron DeLaMare in the repair shop handling motors and bicycles. Walk in and browse the new stock and meet the friendly staff.

Marshall Wells opens new store on Main Street Roblin

Mayor George Giles inaugurated the Marshall Wells Store on April 15 at 10 am on Main Street Roblin. Mr and Mrs Kozmennik were thanked for the building. The event drew a large crowd with door prize drawings and penny count contest.
