The wooden ironing board fades as metal models gain popularity. Modern boards feature inverted T legs, adjustable height, and extension flaps for larger surfaces. Some include rubber wheels for mobility, with center back or dual controls to accommodate left and right handed users.
A long list of families and individuals spent Easter holidays with relatives in Dauphin Brandon Winnipeg and other Manitoba and Saskatchewan towns. The report names J W Haines Haines Cranwell Howell Hilland Allanson Peterson Oliphant Newton Misener Fletcher Woodley Homenuik and McBain among others visiting relatives or hosting guests from across Canada.
Roblin and district residents welcome guests from The Pas and Winnipeg. Alf Boyce and Shirley open a new jewellery store in Flin Flon, with congratulations from friends and relatives. Numerous visits span Dauphin, Selkirk, Birtle, Swan River, Winnipeg, and Kamsack as families gather over Easter and weekends.
The Roblin Golf Club held its April meeting with Ross Misener presiding. Harry Oliphant was elected president for the 1965 season while Cpl. M. Clark reported a successful 1964 and the executive proposed fee increases including family 25 dollars and non-shareholder 30 dollars, with green fees at one dollar per day.
Harold Boughton reports Manitoba University ceremonies on April 9 honored A Kenville district youth Herbert J. Christian with the Governors General Silver Medal and five other top year awards. James Douglas Nickel received the Presidents Medal. Dr. C R Ford urged expanded vocational training for evolving farming needs. Roblin’s J Calvin Schick noted for applying diploma training to family farming with early field work daily. Hay transport aid deadline is April 30, 1965.
Funeral services were held at Roblin United Church for Hugh Alan McKenzie who died at Winnipeg Children's Hospital after a short illness. He was born March 7 1958 in Kingston Ontario and moved to Deepdale in 1961. Survived by parents Alan and family, brother Douglas Wayne, and grandparents. Pallbearers included Clifford Ayer Matthew Linton Alec Livingstone and Thomas Aitken. Interment followed in Roblin District Cemetery. Rev Earl Dixon led the service.
On March 31 the Bield 4H Woodworking Club met at Bield School. Leader C Sebulski lectured on planes and project planning. Members will make at least five projects each and try fret saws, with lawn ornaments, frames, book ends, and shelves already built.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Ellis announce the birth of their son Wayne Douglas on April 12 at Roblin Hospital. He is a brother for Brian.
Roblin hosts a Sale Days event from April 1 to 10 with a $100 cash prize for a shopper. Harry Holunga of Bield Man wins the top prize. Henry Bouvier of Boggy Creek Man wins an 8 transistor portable radio. Mrs. Roy Caswell of Roblin earns a $25 Shaefer Pen and Pencil Set. Pierre Corneille
The Roblin Branch No. 24 Ladies Auxiliary met April 13 at 8 pm in Memorial Hall with 25 members. Reports covered canvassing for March of Dimes and welfare visits. gifts to Salvation Army. upcoming Swan River Auxiliary Rally May 10 and Dauphin Fitness Sports May 3. Brenda McNicol princess gift. Red Cross canvass. track and field talk by guest speaker Miss Farier Wilson. colors retired and anthem sung. lunch served by hostesses.
The Fitness and Amateur Sport Branch with the Dauphin Recreation Committee announces a one day Regional Recreation Conference in Dauphin on Monday May 3 starting at 9 30 a m.
Manitoba bears season opens May 10th north of the 53rd parallel and May 17th south of it. North ends June 26th and south ends June 12th. Licenses total 387 last year with 10 non residents. One bear per license. no females with cubs. no hunting between sunset and sunrise or Sundays. White suit required, blaze orange cap allowed. No dogs, no live takes, no traps. Resident license $5.25, non resident $10.25.
