25 Member Male Chorus To Appear In Roblin

The 25 member male chorus from Roblin will present a ninety minute sacred concert titled The Bible Tarauen Sunt. The program features Ha and a Russian anthem Hospot Pomius and includes several songs such as Hallelujah Amen and The Heavens Declare. The ensemble previously toured Saskatchewan Mandub British Columbia and Alberta under Eaton’s direction.

Catholic Youth Retreat Unites Parishes in Roblin District

Sacred Heart and Holy Redeemer parishes held a two day Catholic youth retreat from April 13 to 14 with fifty one participants. Rev Z A Bachkowski led the event at Sacred Heart Church. The closing banquet at Holy Redeemer Hall featured Bachkowski Rev M Ronco and Rev M Winehar. Local Catholics urged Roblin youth to join the new CY0 organized by Rev M Roneo.

Sabin Polio Vaccine Clinic Schedule in Manitoba

The Sabin live oral vaccine will be given by mouth in Manitoba as a booster to Salk shots. It targets all three polio strains with a cherry flavored syrup. Mrs L McDuffe and Mrs Tucker Visit Brandon Family

Mrs L McDuffe and Mrs Tucker traveled to Brandon last Thursday to visit their daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs N Dick and family. Shirley Davis plans a two week stay at Nora Cross home in Roblin. Mr and Mrs G Laird hosted an April 15 event honoring Mr Notts birthday. Forty dues are sent with best wishes. Mr Nott born in Port Perry Ont came west filed a homestead in 1901. Farm now owned by Mr D Jones. Mr Nott lived with his daughter and son in law for ten years. Congratulations and best wishes for continued health and happiness.

Obituary: Darcey Jones longtime Toro district resident dies

Darcey Jones born August 23 1871 Omeemee Ontario died April 10 1962 in Kamsack Hospital. He homesteaded Poplar Point Sask and farmed Myrtle and Togo in Saskatchewan. Survived by sister Clara Ross Edmonton predeceased by six brothers. Funeral April 13 at St Pauls United Church Togo with pallbearers and burial in Togo cemetery. Wilsons Funeral Home Kamsack in charge.

School Pupils To Take In Shriners Circus At Dauphin

Goose Lake School Board on April 4 approved pupil and staff attendance at the Shriners Circus in Dauphin on May 22. Two resignations from Grade Six and Grade Three posts were accepted and positions advertised. Trustee Harold Edel was sworn in. Accounts paid include Campbell, Mitchells Drug, Village of Roblin, Man Telephones, Man Hydro, Gestetner, Wilson, Every Late Electric, Wardle. A milk vending machine was installed in both schools.

Roblin Chapter marks 15th birthday with floral tribute

Eastern Star members celebrated the Roblin Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star 15th birthday on April 3. Officers of 1961 presented Mrs Geraldine Britcher with a corsage and engraved candlesticks for her work as Worthy Matron. A lunch followed, with a decorated birthday cake as the centerpiece and Easter motifs on the table.

Town Visitors and Church Service Canceled After Flooded Basement

Mrs Satin Toderian visits Winnipeg while William Yellow 22a rests in Winnipeg General Hospital. A collapsed north wall and five feet of water at United Church Manse basement cut power and heat, forcing Rev Ross Williams and wife to travel to Winnipeg and Kenora. Good Friday service canceled. Mrs Olfrey and Miss Olfrey of Roseisle stay with Mr and Mrs Raymond Switzer to renew acquaintances in the district.

Tummel 4-H Calf Club Meeting Reported April 13

The Tum mel 4-H Calf Club held a regular meeting at the school on April 13. Members answered questions from the 4-H handbook and gave short talks by Mary, Orecia, and Gerald. Plans were made to visit farms of W Lamb and Ward Brothers on April 26 to judge cattle and swine, followed by a Jamboree discussion in the evening.

Roblin Golf Club seeks funds to buy course

At the annual Roblin Golf and Country Club meeting members decided to raise money by selling shares to allow purchase of the golf course. Volunteers listed include Wm Ford Harry Oliphant Dave Logan George Schmaltz Calvin Keast Les Arksey Ross Misener Paul Laliberte Harry Maslope and Jim Mortimer.

Extra Patrols On Highways During Easter Weekend

The R C M P requests public cooperation to keep Easter weekend accident free. Highway patrols will be strong with radar use and unmarked cars, including during dark hours. Emphasizes safety belts for all motorists and courteous driving to protect life and property.

Shell River Council approves accounts and by laws 1962

Rural Municipality of Shell River held a Wednesday April 4 1962 meeting with Reeve F H Wilson chairing. Minutes of March adopted. Accounts totaling 21739 31 for March cheques 4871 to 946 passed. By laws seed grain fodder for farmers and hospital district expansion read and passed. Boundary boundary date request set January 1 1963. Census ordered for 1962. Meeting adjourned with next session May 2 1962 at 10 am.

Boni Gallant won a Stratford Festival trip after an essay contest with Grandview and Gilbert Plains entrants. Gary McCrea and Ron Wilson attend a Bran don leadership course during Easter holidays, sponsored by Pool Elevators and Roblin Co op. On April 7 Gary won $100 in a calf scramble at Brandon Winter Fair. Roblin senior boys beat Gilbert Plains 30-29 on April 10 to become Intermountain champions. the junior boys followed with a 33-21 victory and junior intermediate title. Milk machine arrives and canteen project grows.

Father and Son Banquet Held April 12 by Roblin Cub Pack

The Roblin Cub Pack held its Father and Son Banquet at the Elks Hall on April 12 1962 with every boy accompanied by a father or adopted a father in larger families. A Home and School Association kept a delicious dinner flowing and guest speaker Harry Whitmore of Yorkton praised Cub and Scout training noting its role in character building and low court appearances. Ralph Ritchie presented Whitmore a gift and the evening closed with Cubs providing entertainment.

Manitoba March of Dimes Sets Records in 1962 Drive

H L Orchard of Miami and Mrs W G Ford of Roblin presented 130000 dimes in support of the Manitoba March of Dimes during the 79th Grand Lodge and 51st Rebekah Assembly sessions in Winnipeg. Members from fourteen Manitoba communities set all time records as part of the drive and ongoing IC CF projects include a memorial at the International Peace Gardens.
