The narrative recounts hard winter living in Roanoke with foraging for fuel, scarce rations, and a trek to obtain wood. Soldiers defend the city while Hood’s forces advance, trenches and fortifications rise, and cold, snowy conditions test the troops and camp routines.
Attorneys for the war chest announce suits will be filed in the circuit court against remaining delinquents by mid next week if debts are not paid. After Aurelius Lahr settled, many delinquents are expected to be forced to pay by law, prompting a wholesale end to pledge collection and more settlements among leaders of the opposition. S. M. Minnich of Andrews paid the balance of 50 dollars plus costs, and his suit was dismissed.
Kipling quoted on strength in numbers to urge joining the Church of Jesus Christ. Sunday school at 9:30. Morning worship at 10:30. Epworth League at 6:30. Evening worship address to follow. Officials include A H Sapp, James Minsel, Emory Gillespie, C Emery Smith.
The first Library Club gathering will be hosted by Mrs. Arden McCoy at her residence on Tuesday evening. Also assisting are Mrs. R. H. Davidson and Mrs. McCoy, coordinating the event.
Indiana Tuberculosis Association executive secretary Murray Auberbach notes Indiana ranks second among midwestern states for freedom from tuberculosis but calls for continued effort. Michigan records the lowest 1919 death rate at 86 per 100 000. Indiana 110.29, Illinois 115, Ohio 115, Kentucky 165. The decline since 1915 reflects health authorities work, doctor vigilance, and the Christmas Seal fund education.

Worship at 10 30 focuses on Witnessing for Christ. Evening service at 7 30 discusses A Happy People. Christian Endeavor at 6 30 led by W B Carter with Rev F B Feighner presiding. Rally Day planned for October 9 with a good program and plans to attend.
Disciples of Christ in Whitley county announce a Sunday September 25 gathering at Laud Christian Church. The 10:00 a.m. church school convenes with a missionary from the foreign field and a full all day program to be announced.
Washington officials warn the public against overestimating the November armament talks. Aims foresee a limited future building program and curbing naval power, with hopes for reduced tensions in the Far East rather than immediate disarmament.
The Wabash District organizes special services across Markle Uniondale Roanoke and Roanoke Circuit with four pastors delivering addresses. Rev E A Bunner plans questions on revival while Rev H P Young and Rev Emery Smith discuss benevolent boards Missions and Centenary pledge. Addresses set at Rockford Uniondale Sunday the 25th at 2 30 and 7 30.
A meeting of the Hawkeye Oil Company directors occurred in September to consider dividend declarations. Details remain sparse in the fragmentary report.
