Final Meeting Dissolves War Salvage Committee
The Roanoke Rapid War Salvage Committee held its final meeting at the Roanoke Rapids Armory on Tuesday. Remaining funds from waste paper and scrap metal sales totaled 987.17 and were divided equally between the Roanoke Rapids Boy Scout and Girl Scout councils, with checks for 493.58 authorizd to be sent to the respective treasurers.

Navy discharge for Coxswain J B Price after four years
Coxswain J B Price, husband of Doris Paige Edwards, received an honorable navy discharge with 46 points after four years in service. He participated in the invasions of Sicily and Africa. The Price family will move to Oklahoma City to start a business. they include their daughter Linda Lou.

Davenport Returns to Sioux Falls After Service
Sgt. Doyle Davenport, son of Mr and Mrs L E Davenport, returned to Sioux Falls after thirty days with his wife and parents. He entered service in 1942 and spent twelve months in England with the Eighth Air Force bombing squad, earning four battle stars.

Lenzie Lee Freed From Prison Camp
Lenzie J. Lee aged 33 son of Mrs. Annie L. Lee of South Rosemary has been freed from a Japanese prison camp. A War Department telegram to his sister Mrs. W. C. Whitley said he is on Guam Island on his way home and "I am well and happy." Lee volunteered for the regular army in 1929 re enlisted in 1932 later joined the Navy as a civilian at Wake Island. He was captured December 23 1941 when Wake fell. He formerly worked for Rosemary Manufacturing Company.

Rubber Footwear Rationing Ends After Japan Surrender

Tragic 301 Freeway Crash Kills McKinney and Mrs Harris
Darrell McKinney 38 died instantly when his company car collided on Highway 301 with a 1939 Chevrolet panel truck driven by Mrs. Harris. Mrs. Harris 23 of Emporia Va. died at Roanoke Rapids Hospital. Louise Harris suffered a crushed arm. Elizabeth Jesup 24 of Weldon survived with minor injuries. McKinney and Mrs Harris were identified as occupants of the two demolished vehicles.

Going Back To Standard Time
The House of Representatives voted unanimously to abolish War Time and return clocks to Standard Time. The bill, introduced by Lyle H. Boren of Oklahoma, calls for ending War Time and turning the clocks back one hour.

Tomlinson Receives Bronze Star for Heroic Action in France
S/Sgt. James T. Tomlinson of the 120th Infantry Regiment USA earns the Bronze Star for a July 16 1944 heroic act in France. He and a comrade delivered supplies under heavy fire then evacuated the wounded, aiding his unit. He is from Winston-Salem and joined in 1940 overseas in February 1944. He is a member of the Old Hickory Division and wears the Presidential Citation Combat Infantry Badge and five Battle Stars.

Sergeant Leroy W. Morris, radio operator on a B 17, after 26 months in the European theatre, is at the San Antonio District AAF Personnel Distribution Command for processing.
