New Time daylight plan eyed for October and November

Proponents urge two hours of daylight saving in fall arguing 8:30 p m in October and 7 p m in December with daylight outside. They admit getting universal adherence to any rule remains a hurdle. Roanoke Rapids Hospital Delays Decision on Operation

At the September board meeting trustees weighed the hospital's viability amid a strike and fund shortages. No action was taken and a decision was postponed to next week while emergency cases only are admitted. Estimates show about 3000 dollars weekly in operating costs and roughly 6642 dollars monthly.

Warsaw Couple Injured in Car Overturn on Richmond Highway

Mr and Mrs Albert Askew of Warsaw North Carolina were injured when their car overturned near the city on the Richmond highway last Saturday night. Mrs Askew remained in Roanoke Rapids Hospital with injuries reported as serious while Mr Askew had minor cuts and was discharged after first aid. The couple was returning from Richmond when the crash occurred as Albert Askew avoided a vehicle approaching from a side road. Mr and Mrs Page Taylor of Richmond assisted and transported the Askews to Roanoke Rapids Hospital.

Condition of Tyler Improves After Car Crash

The condition of George Tyler a prominent city mail carrier is much improved Dr C C Coleman of Richmond said after he operated Sunday Tyler was injured when his car overturned near La Crosse Va last Thursday night Sept 6 Earl Rook the other occupant received treatment for minor injuries and was discharged Tyler later at Roanoke Rapids Hospital X ray showed a broken back and initial fears of spinal cord severing proved unfounded though paralysis remains a concern

Rosemary workers seek governor protection to return to work

Rose mary Textile Workers union members pleads with Governor Ehringhaus for protection to go back to Rosemary Manufacturing Co. after two week halt. The local action notes 600 of 850 on payroll joined home union and blames pickets from other mills for forcing absence. No decision reported as Adjutant General Metts considers the request.

Shaheen Injured in Weldon Road Truck Crash

Leo Shaheen suffered a leg fracture when a Weldon Ice Co truck overturned near the Country Club entrance on Weldon Road Sunday afternoon. He is hospitalized at Roanoke Rapids Hospital awaiting further medical decisions as surgeons consider the possibility of amputation.
