County gets dentist for colored school children
Dr. Love, a colored dentist sent by the State Board of Health, leads Halifax County six week dental clinic for colored school children. The Weldon first week treated over 150 youngsters, with visits planned to Print Colored Training School, Scotland Neck, and surrounding townships. The program earns strong appreciation within the colored community.

Halifax Red Cross Nurses Club Organized
Miss Lauser County Nurse organized a Halifax Red Cross Nurses Club on Wednesday morning to meet weekly for twelve weeks. Fifteen members joined with Mrs. Lou Applewhite elected president and Mrs. M. H. Mitchell secretary. The group aims to pursue a beneficial cause under a pleasant teacher.

Go red by a bull in Woodland Northampton County
Mr. R. C. Benthall a leading Northampton business man and farmer was seriously injured when a Jersey bull belonging to Mr Benthal charged him as he helped remove the rope from its head. He suffered a broken leg and multiple injuries and was taken to a Norfolk hospital for treatment.

Miss Jennie Short Dies in Norfolk Funeral
Roanoke Rapids resident Miss Jennie Short daughter of Mrs Lillian Short died recently in Norfolk. She was active in All Saint's Episcopal Church and its choir. Funeral services were held in Norfolk yesterday afternoon with interment in a Norfolk cemetery.

A French paper says the jazz band idea began during the Directory era. At Cat orchestra concerts twenty cats lined a harpsichord keyboard and, when the performer struck keys, the cats’ tails were pulled to produce a caterwaul resembling a jazz band.
