Dr. J. L. Spruill from the N. C. State Sanatorium will conduct free lung and heart disease exams in the county during the first two weeks of November. The State funds the program to detect tuberculosis early when curable. Clinics will be in Weldon November 1 2 3 Littleton Scotland Neck November 6 7 8.
Mrs C M Pitt delightfully entertained the M E Ladies Aid at her new Old Town home Thursday afternoon. Miss Mary Washburne provided music. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served to an invited group including Mrs A L Barr and many other local ladies.
Carolina Lodge No 225 I C C F reports a large attendance on October 25 with one initiation class of three and an additional degree planned for November 2. The Grand Lodge Woodell Class campaign asks each lodge to recruit ten members October through December in memory of B H Woodell. Members in Rosemary and Roanoke Rapids urged to bring one application each. Visiting brothers from Key West Florida and Franklinton New Jersey welcomed. Attendance policy invites Rosemary and Roanoke Rapids members to attend Mondays at W O W Hall in Rosemary NC.
All Saints Church announces the twenty second Sunday after Trinity with Holy Communion at 7 30 AM School at 9 45 AM supervised by T W Mullen Divine services at 11 00 AM and 1 30 PM All Saints Day falls on Monday November 1 with Holy Communion at 11 00 AM A Hallowe en party for children is planned tomorrow at 7 20 PM. You are invited to All Saints Church.
The Baptist Church announces Sunday school at 10:00 AM led by W. S. Hancock, superintendent. Preaching at 11:00 AM and 7:30 PM with a Wednesday prayer meeting at 7:30 PM. Public cordially invited to all services.
Emma Sue Garris longtime Rosemary resident died Monday at 10 am after a five year illness. She was 61, twelve years in Rosemary. A Pendleton, NC native, she was generous and a good neighbor. Body sent to Sesboard area with burial at her old home after funeral services by Rev. C. M. Lance of the Methodist Church.
Vashti Kennemur entertained Saturday afternoon at the home of her parents for her tenth birthday. Games were played. Myrtle Jordan won a cake prize. Guests included Misses Claded Brown Myrtle Jordan Virginia Hobbs Elsie White Louise Merritt Dorothy Welsh Buelah and Katherine Kidd Grainne and Aldry Hardy Mary Rook Eva Jones and Messrs Elmo Merritt Burland Er mand Williams James Dooly Banks Andrews Rupert Hardy William Allsbrook Leonard Langston Cavin Roy Kennemar John Draper. At six o'clock the guests departed with pleasing memories and Vashti received many presents.
The Parent-Teacher Association will gather in the Central School Auditorium Monday at 4 15 p m. Music in homes and schools will be discussed. Miss Crisp will demonstrate with a class of children what schools aim to do with public singing. Mrs Hancock will sing songs every child should know. Committees will be appointed and delegates named for the State meeting at Greensboro.

South Rosemary residents attended the State Fair and Raleigh ball game. Attendees include Andrews Patterson Sisk Medlin Fulgham Powell and Miss Andrews. Mrs Annie Russell Weldon visited Mrs A J Medlin. Rally Day at Smiths drew a large crowd. Thanksgiving Festival set for Friday at 8. Attorney Knight Weldon spoke on Service. A part of Hockaday farm was auctioned last Saturday. South Rosemary school grounds have been plowed and a basketball court may be built soon. Clarence Fulgham spent the weekend in New York City. Ben Hastings Kansas visited Mrs R E Merritt.
The St Claire sisters performed a second Lyceum course at Central School auditorium Tuesday evening. Their program mixed instrumental and vocal quartets duets trios and pianologues with popular selections. The audience applauded enthusiastically and the next act is scheduled for next week.
