Roanoke Mills Canning Club Dominates Rocky Mount Fair

The Roanoke Mills Canning Club exhibit at the Rocky Mount Fair topped all displays winning best overall exhibit and multiple individual prizes. Miss Jennie Whitaker led the club with several firsts and seconds for jars of peaches huckleberries soup mix tomatoes and more. Other prize recipients include Alma Vaughan Mrs Y N Underwood Gertrude Bray Erma Cranwell and Lulla Brown among many.

Bishop Cheshire to Visit All Saints Church Oct 12

The Rt Rev Joseph Blount Cheshire D D Bishop of the Diocese of North Carolina sets October 12 for regular visitation at All Saints Church. He will administer Confirmation by laying on of hands to a prepared class at eight o'clock. He will also visit St Luke's Church in Northampton Gomis on Tuesday night.

Members of the Presbyterian Auxiliary decide to shift their bazaar from December 10 to Tuesday November 29. The move affects planning and attendance for the charity sale hosted by the church community.

Recorder's Court V News Items Dismisses Non-Support Case

Suit for non support dismissed after local merchant Joe Pilkington presented rebuttal evidence. Court blamed too much interference from his mother in law and ordered costs shifted. Additional fines include ten dollars for a colored man drunk and disorderly, five dollars for speeding, and two suspects fined two dollars fifty each for an affray.

Death of Mrs Burton in Raleigh and family rites

Mrs Mary Carroll Burton widow of Hon R O Burton died at her Raleigh home on the 30th. She was a daughter of Thomas Carroll of Ashland Virginia and lived in Raleigh about thirty years. Survived by four children she was a cultured M E Church member. Remains brought to Poplar Grove near Rosemary and interred last Saturday. Rites led by Rev B Jones and Rev L Taylor of Roanoke Rapids. Family members listed include Annie Burton Mary C Burleigh and others.

The Rosemary Methodist Church schedules a morning service at 11 with infant baptism discussion followed by a Roll Call of the Church. Evening at 7:30 features The Universal guests for material and Spiritual things and preaching at New Hope at 3:30. Lyceum Course Opens Next Tuesday in Ogden

The season Lyceum course begins next Tuesday evening at 8:30 in the Central School Auditorium. Nine attractions are scheduled, six musical, with displays by The Temple Singers Ernest Toy Artists Trio Floyds Tschaikowsky Quartet Loren Bates Trio The Elizabethan Players in The Taming of the Shrew Ernest Gamble Concert Company Kaufman Male Quartet and Dr William Davidson Parry. Temple Singers A Company of Professional Singers

The Temple Singers scheduled to appear at Central School Auditorium next Tuesday at 8 30 pm are among the top Lyceum acts on the road. The quartet includes Lucille Buzzo Katherine Strong Edwin Delbridge Dimetric Styop and Bernice Coughill. The program spans four centuries with English ballads praise songs and modern pieces performed with care.

William L Cook Dies After Long Illness at 66

William L. Cook of Tilghman’s Cross Roads died Tuesday October 4 1921 after months of poor health. He was buried October 5 at Smiths Methodist Church near South Rosemary. A lifelong honest worker and devoted husband and father, he left a wife several children and grandchildren. Funeral conducted by Dr D B Zollicoffer Weldon and the writer. A large crowd attended with many flowers.

Organ Recital At All Saints Church Tonight

On Saturday night Anne Bell Gray and Earnest Thomas were married by Chas M. Lance at the Rosemary Methodist Parsonage. The couple will live in Peham, with Miss Gray residing with her mother in South Rosemary.

Rosemary Kindergarten charity event draws small town crowd

A Rose Hill area community notices events from UNC alumni gatherings to a fundraising measuring party for the Methodist Church at Rosemary Kindergarten on October 8. Mr F R Harris Dead in Office in Jackson

The town and surrounding community were shocked Monday night to learn that Mr F R Harris died suddenly in his office after walking there from home. Harris had practiced law at Northampton Bar for about twenty years and earned trust in his profession. he had represented the county in the legislature as chosen by local food interests.
