Driver Death Car Sentenced To State Prison Five Years

Williams Jones, driver of the car that fatally struck Blanche Wal ston, 11, near Scotland Neck on November 5, received five years in State's prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter. B. S. Kirkland, owner of the car, faced accessory to manslaughter charges and was sentenced to six months on the roads for operating a car while intoxicated. The child died after the vehicle hit her as she approached a parked school bus. Jones fled but was captured. Kirkland was arrested at the scene.

Woman Dies of Wounds in Halifax County Collision

James Arrington, a Washington D C resident, faces a manslaughter hearing in county recorder's court at Halifax next Tuesday over a wreck that killed Mrs Alfie Gisgow Liles of Littleton route 2. The fatality occurred after the Liles on their way to Tabor Methodist Church were hit as they turned across the highway into the church yard. Mrs Liles died in the local hospital Tuesday morning.

Negro Bites Officer During Arrest in Halifax County

A Black man named Banks resisted arrest by Policeman A. J. Brigman in Halifax County by biting Brigman on the left hand as he tried to place Banks in a car for transport to jail. Brigman, who was injured and treated, added resisting arrest to the charges. Banks is jailed awaiting county recorder's court trial with bond set at 150 dollars.

Grand Jury Reverses Indictments in Halifax Case

Ten bills drawn against J Winfield Crew Jr were returned not true by the Halifax County Superior Court grand jury after preliminary true bills. Foreman Russell Weeks moved to recall the indictments for separate voting, leading to a 24 hour reversal and all bills being dismissed. Charges included embezzlement forgery and false pretense. seven embezzlement, two forgery, one false pretense. This marked a rare reversal, possibly a county precedent.
