Rich Square Murder Mystery Tied to Missing Cash and Car
H W Elliott a 48 year old barber and farmer from Rich Square was killed at the yard of his colored tenant Dolly Lee Hudson. He was beaten and shot with a shotgun wound to the neck. Elliott’s automobile and valuables disappeared and the car was later found in Petersburg Virginia. Hudson is at large as officers pursue the suspect.

Liske Chosen Tuesday Roanoke Rapids Commissioner
D. Liske assistant secretary at Patterson Mills Co was appointed Commissioner of Roanoke Rapids at a regular Board meeting this week. He fills the vacancy caused by John C Smith's death and will serve until the next election. Liske has been in the city since 1927.

Pastor Fisher to Transfer to Lumberton Church
Reverend Edgar B. Fisher, Roanoke Rapids Methodist Church pastor for four years, will move to Lumberton to lead Chestnut Street Methodist Church starting next Sunday. His transfer follows changes at the annual conference in Fayetteville. He arrived in Roanoke Rapids in 1935 from Mount Gilead and helped retire the church debt of $8,000, with the building dedicated debt free in 1937.
