Miss Washburn director of the community pictures at New Hope enjoyed an excellent program last Saturday. She agreed to return on December 4 drawing a large crowd. Locals note many regrets from those who missed the last show and invite all to join the forthcoming night of community cinema.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Baptist Church of Roanoke Rapids will hold its annual Bazaar at the cannery on Saturday November 20. Displays of fancy work will be for sale and a selection of foods including Barbecue Chicken Salad Oysters and homemade cake and cream will be served. The public is invited to attend and enjoy good eats.
The Red Cross membership drive will occur Saturday November 20 in Rosemary and Roanoke Rapids. National goal is about 10,000,000 members, roughly one tenth of the U S population, with a local target of 600 members. The appeal cites the ongoing abroad and domestic relief work and the small one dollar fee. Stanley White serves as Roll Call Chairman.
Mr and Mrs James Harper Alexander announce the marriage of their daughter Mary Shields to Mr John David Wells on November 6 1920 in Richmond Virginia The bride teaches at Rosemary School and the groom is with Wells Motor Company of Wilson They plan to stay in New York City several days and after November 15 will reside at the New Briggs Hotel Wilson North Carolina
Rosemary notices town visitors from Raleigh Norfolk and Richmond with social events and meetings. The White Tigers Boys Club elected officers at All Saints Episcopal Church. The Wake Forest Glee Club and Orchestra, twenty five strong, will give a concert in the school auditorium next Wednesday night with admission 75 and 35 cents.
Mrs Frank Nash entertained three tables of Bridge in her Roanoke Avenue apartment on Monday afternoon honoring guest Mrs R R Carlyle of Lumberton North Carolina. Tea and sandwiches followed eight hands of play with prizes awarded for high score and for embroidered apron. Guests included Mesdames Nash Carlyle Skipper Hayes Brown McPherson Long Jarman Peck Lehman Mulien and Miss Holladay.
The Womans Club entertained teachers with a November reception at the Central School building. Guests toured decorated halls and heard a musical program featuring Miss Lucy Crisp, Miss Alice Hockaday, Mrs. Hancock, Miss Julia Thompson, Herbert Scott, Maude Jones, and a quartet. It was the second such event and popular with the community.
The first annual Weldon Roanoke Rapids Gun Club tournament drew prominent men from Georgia Virginia and North Carolina. Ideal weather and high sportsmanship marked the event with visitors praising the organization. Merchants manufacturers and Roanoke Rapids mill managers contributed to the success along with the Weldon Methodist Circle handling dinners. The gathering aims to establish the tournament as a recurring feature and spur recreation including gun grounds golf courses and tennis. Professional scores led by Moss E L showing 298 total.
Honors assigned by grade list students from ninth to tenth and eighth grades, with totals for each entrant. Prize results shown with winners from Richmond, Clarendon, Norfolk and other Virginia towns, along with several scores and totals.
Ted Tonkins says he does not want to be made younger and dislikes the idea of returning to the baseball umpiring routine. He explains he does not wish to be bothered training again and prefers his current mellowed mood.

Miss Helen Powell hosts a refined birthday gathering with a red and gold dining room decor featuring autumn leaves and chrysanthemums. Locals Mrs Myrtle Tudor and Mrs I C Bobbitt visit. several visits to Raleigh and Norfolk noted. Upcoming South Rosemary program includes a Womanless Wedding and an Old Maid's Convention set for November 23 with a full cast to be announced.
Rev Sidney S Best rector of St Philip s Episcopal Church Durham NC will address the Nation Wide Campaign for Service at All Saints Church Friday night at 7 30 public is cordially invited.
Harris Garage burned to the ground Saturday morning causing great loss. Funeral services were held for Roy Renshaw in Rocky Mount Friday afternoon. Arbor Day program held at the Hollister school Friday afternoon. Hollister girls defeated Littleton 15 to 9 while Hollister boys lost 3 to 1. Several residents traveled to Rocky Mount and Wilson for shopping and visits. Work at Hollister Lumber Mill paused Saturday due to an accident. Mrs. J B Hardy leaves for Kinston. Ida Hill takes charge of the boarding house. Sadie Vinson visits Wilson sister.
The 1920 better baby contest at the Aurelian Springs community Fair announced winners J. Richard Taylor Jr first Roy Riggens second and Amon B Lyles third among twelve entrants. The Better Babies Bureau of the Womans Home Companion provided score cards and bronze medal for first prize. Diplomas and score cards will be awarded by the Fair Association reflecting the grades achieved.
