Twenty six scouts and leaders set out for Camp Sam sharing the journey through briars and a creek crossing. They built a camp, ate supper, and faced a dark cemetery crossing on the return. The girls’ songs kept spirits high while they hope for a real bridge over the creek on future trips. Tenderfoot exams proceed in Pine Cone and Goldenrod troops. Red Rose is the youngest. The Goldenrod and Pine Cone troops approach full certification as uniforms and commissions are awaited. Girl Scouts are described as shining in a cheery, period-voiced verse. Halifax County Exhibits led by Miss Ethel Leatherwood won 50 dollars for general exhibit and 10 dollars for best county collection of fruits and vegetables at the Tarboro Fair. Twelve counties competed. Halifax placed prominently with numerous first prizes for canned apples beans pickles jams marmalades juice and a three jar fruit and vegetable collection earning a 2 dollar third prize.

Parent-Teacher Association to Furnish Milk to School Children
The Central School PTA will provide a morning glass of milk at 10 30 for children who want it. Milk costs four cents per glass, with weekly tickets sold Monday morning for twenty cents. A ticket covers five glasses or one glass daily for the week. Tickets are sold by teachers. The program follows recent weighings showing many children are underweight and aims to remedy this with daily milk.

Mrs Ella Nance Taylor Dies After Brief Illness
Mrs. Ella Nance Taylor of South Rosemary died at Roanoke Rapids Hospital Sunday afternoon after a brief illness at age forty. Survived by husband Charles Taylor and three children. Funeral services were held at the home of her father-in-law Thomas T. Taylor on Five Hundred Street, Rosemary, Tuesday afternoon with Rev Taylor officiating. Interment followed at Cedarwood Cemetery.
