Halifax County led by Roanoke Rapids delivered one of the largest repeal majorities in the state in Tuesday's election. Roanoke Rapids cast 1 049 for repeal and 435 against, a five to two ratio, a strong showing in the statewide tally.

Finding cost of fire department reported in city meeting
The City Board discussed buying a fire truck and building a fire station. The Fire Committee was told to investigate truck prices and terms and report next month. Mayor Jenkins and Commissioner F C Williams were appointed to study trading delinquent taxes for vacant lots to locate a central fire department site. The government may advance building funds under the public works program.

Roanoke Rapids engineer found dead in office
K. H. Barrow, a Roanoke Rapids engineer and contractor for ten years, was found dead in his Kidd Building office yesterday morning. Coroner Williams suggests death occurred between 6 and 10 p.m. Tuesday. F. G. Floyd found Barrow at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Barrow sat partially clothed near the door after being last seen Tuesday morning.
