Security Benefits Still Being Lost

Security payments are still lost as claimants fail to file. Marshall Barney of the Rocky Mount Field Office notes nearly six percent of claims are filed late, causing months of lost benefits. Two main groups missed are wives and widows unfamiliar with Social Security and older workers who delay after job loss until resources are exhausted. A postcard or office visit could save benefits, especially after age 69 or a breadwinner’s death.
